BLRO+Bluesy into a Full Gold?

Hey Guys,

I've been agonizing about this for a while now. I've been daily driving a BLRO for the better part of a year now, and recently added a Bluesy Sub for weekends. I typically only have one nice watch at a time. After having both in my stable now, I'm really mulling hard about flipping both in favour of going to one full gold watch for weekday/weekend. Thinking about a Smurf or full YG Bluesy, or maybe even a blue dial DD40.

The Smurf seems like a pretty logical choice for work/rest/play. Can a full YG Bluesy or DD40 be worn as an only watch?

Valuewise, am I in the ballpark for a trade?

Thanks

Why don’t you get the watch you want ? Without considering value? Sorry but it’s just my opinion.
I think a gold sub with black face would be a killer- but smurf is also sick.

you can definitely daily a yg sub and i'm not a fan of wg so i'm not sure if i would do the trade for a smurf. i just personally feel like if you're trading 2 great watches for PM it should be colored gold so it feels more special

If I'm honest, I do like the idea of the full gold Bluesy. Just trying to ask myself if I'm ready to go bold and say FU to the world with a yellow gold watch :)

Think you might miss the utility of these pair if you trade and go for a single DD.

Love the DD although you have 2 classics there in my humble opinion. GMT during the week, TT Sub for holidays and high days.

Maybe save up of the full YG piece and have it in addition, what a collection you would have then. All bases covered.

You, my friend have a great combo !!!
I personally would keep what you have...

If you must have a full pm then I'd go Full Bluesy but honestly
I'd rather have 2 than just one if $$$ is not a problem...

I currently wear a TT Bluesy as a daily so I'm good with that.
The Blue in the smurf is kind of dull so unfortunately it doesn't
do anything for me.

This was my thought exactly for the OP. The YG DD would be the perfect addition to the other two but wouldn’t make a good replacement.

Value-wise, I think you're giving up a couple grand too much... Not to mention, you're giving up 2 classics just for 1 in return.

Bad deal for you.

Why not a CHNR or rose gold day date with chocolate dial?

Unless either of these has any sentimental value to you, you could always give it a try. If you decide the PM is not for you then sell that on and revert back to 2.

Cost-wise, I'd say you are easily in the range for a YG Bluesy or WG Smurf if you are happy with pre-owned (with money coming back to you) or perhaps NOS, and are pretty close to getting a new 2019 for that if you shop around (depends on the year and condition of your current 2 watches).

Regarding the PM as a single watch daily, I'd say yes for the smurf but no for the YG. The smurf flies under the radar and only watch people know what it really is. YG will just be too much for some situations I feel.

Both the YG and WG are stunning in my book and are definitely both on my own list to get at some point, so no particular bias here.

Not sure why you reserve gold for weekends. Why spend the money on a Smurf if you will wear it two days a week? I wear my Smurf every day, or night. PICS:

Goodman, and once you decide to polish it, it will look brand new without any real loss of metal

I think you missed OP’s point. He’s asking if the 2 can be traded for 1 full gold. It’s a valid question and yes, OP, I think you are in the right wheel house. Problem is, if you trade to a gray, he’s going to give you wholesale value. I’d sell on the forum at a reasonable price. You might be a little short for a smurf, but probably right there for a YG watch.

As far as everyday, I don’t wear my full gold everyday. My job and lifestyle are too active. I’d rather beat up a SS everyday, and wear my RG during less active times. One of those decisions you have to make based on your daily activity.

Hey Guys,

Thanks for all of the comments. Definitely giving me some pause for thought on whether I should just keep these two.

The full gold replacement would end up being my seven days a week daily driver, which is what made the Smurf appealing as it seemed like the most versatile full gold sub option with a blue dial. Heck, even the full gold BLRO might be an option.

Bring your wife or parents in to this decision brother.

I really enjoyed my BLNR and an old 5-digit Sub, but after picking a BLRO, I never wore another SS Rolex - and that was 3 years ago.

For me, the Smurf is more comfortable than the BLRO, but either one is well worth the $$ if you can swing it.

This would be my move if you feel you need a PM Sub. The GMT’s are on fire now and with the new movement. Buy the PM preowned since they take such a hard initial hit. Good chance a preowned will look and feel new.

I'd do the trade for sure. I love PM pieces and they are the only ones I buy now.

You will be able to do a straight swap if you do one with a MINT condition one. A brand new one you might still need to add money on top.

BLRO trade probably $15k or slightly less. Yours is used and dealer will want min 10% profit probably 15%-20% on this watch
Bluesy trade probably $10k. Dealer will resell for $11k or 11.5k - yours actually looks pretty damn good condition.

I'd go for it, wore mine as a daily for a few months when it was my most resilient PM watch and I had no SS.

Smurf is so nice in person. The blue color is amazing. Easy for it to be a daily. But you do have 2 nice watches. Not sure what I would do. But man I do love the WG Sub!

You've a great combo there. I wouldn't trade those two for a single gold watch. I would only add a gold watch to a collection, once I had acquired a few. I wouldn't advise wearing a gold watch daily - gold on leather, sure, but not a fully gold watch. It is too flashy, and will grab everyone's attention, constantly. Beautiful they are, but personally, I would not expose myself like that since I often travel to the city centre. The irony is that some stainless watches are worth more than 18k watches, and just fly under the radar.
