Fake watches at greys? Possible incoming

Hi Guys,

I’ve found a 114060 in Vienna at a grey shop, and the price is pretty good. He is selling and buying watches, Gold and diamond, plus servicing watches. I’ve asked him to take the watch to an official Rolex store for legit check before I pay for it, but he refused it agressively and huffily, that he is in the business since a while and he also gives me a receipt about my purchase plus 2 years guarantee, which is not important as the watch still has a 5 years guarantee as it’s brand new. He has 4.5 stars on google and has a pretty good homepage.

My question might be dumb, but I’ve never spent so much money on a watch before so I would like to make it sure that it’s not fake. Do these receipts from grey dealers guarantee that the watch is not fake? Do they defend me somehow in case the watch is fake?

Thanks in advance!

Buy the dealer, does he has a large online presence?

I very much doubt he will be selling a fake 114060.

Save money and buy a watch with an open back case (Omega, JLC, GO ...).

First its very doubtful if any bricks and mortar store would knowingly sell any fake watches, as it could destroy his business.Second unless the warranty was stamped and scanned by a official Rolex AD you will not have a Rolex warranty, only the one offered from the grey seller.

It's a brand new watch, but he just bought it from someone, who bought it in a Rolex Boutique 1 month ago, it's completely unworn. It has warranty card and everything. I thought it has the 5 year warranty in that case.

I've seen a Rolex a few days ago from him on an Austrian Buy and Sell page. He has listed a few other watches too. He sold that Rolex in 2 hours, that's why I called him, to let me know if he has another one. He called me next day with a pretty good price. About $800 on the top of the retail price.

Juwelier Sascha Wien, he has a homepage as well:

Only if the card was activated by the official Rolex AD, if not then you will only have the grey sellers warranty. But in the real world its very seldom any warranty work will need doing except perhaps regulation if you are OCD about a second or so out of 86400 in a day.

I doubt it is a fake watch. If the watch is what you want and the price is right then buy it and have Rolex take a look and validate that the watch is real. It will cost you a little more but if it gives you piece of mind then do it. The ND Submariner-C is a great watch and a good choice. Let us know what you decide.

Thanks guys!

"Only if the card was activated by the official Rolex AD"

I was just wondering how is it possible to buy a Rolex watch from the Boutique without activating the warranty?

Boutique Receipt will make absolutely sure, but sounds legit. Do you know the boutique in question? You can visit them yourself and ask about the sale.

I have edited my post to remove all negative and derogatory comments.

If you're not 100% confident in the watch, then don't buy it.

also not a guarantee that the watch is genuine. I have seen some really really good fakes out there.

A used watch shop is not a "Grey Dealer", which is the import of new, authentic, product.

If the shop is reputable, no legitimate business will knowingly risk their business by selling counterfeit goods - it is a felony.
