Incoming - Three SS for One PM
Hello everyone!
It’s really interesting how my collection has evolved over time. I started in 1997 with a 16220 which I then sold to fund a 16613 in 2004 (now I realize I should have kept). Then a few more SS models from Rolex, Cartier, Glashutte (sold) and Zenith (sold) and I thought I was content. I had decided to hold off on any PM piece, specifically a Day-Date until retirement or at least until 60 (little over 5 years away for me) as in my head, it made sense. While on vacation this past summer I popped into the Rolex AD in Madrid and tried on a DD40 in rose gold chocolate dial and I was smitten - Couldn’t get it out of my head. Then Daytona with a Sundust dial which I loved. Also the full gold rootbeer which was great too - but heavy. For me DD with the Sundust dial would be my #1 choice. The shine, the heft the wrist presence - Can’t convey in words to describe the overall feeling but I’m sure many of you know what I’m talking about trying on PM pieces. I never bothered to even try a PM piece on while looking at exhibition models in the past… Not in the position to add at the moment, so I started thinking about moving on pieces not getting enough wrist time, would be duplicative, or easier to get in the future. I would have asked for opinions here, but at the end of the day it would be my choice alone, and reading comparable posts on this awesome forum, most would have concluded as I did. Very tough as I loved the three I decided to move, my ND sub (probably the best GADA watch), polar (clean and legible) and Sky dweller with both bracelets (most complicated, super accurate, but top heavy). But giving up 3 great SS watches plus a little cash for 1 PM was also weighing on me. I approached my lovely wife for her opinion and without hesitation she was like absolutely do the deal, life is short why wait - do it now and enjoy. Within minutes the watches were packed up sent off. Special shout out to DavidSW for another fantastic experience-3rd deal with him - he and his team are really the best. So efficient and easy to work with that’s why I always come back to him. Truly happy with this addition and should be content with where my collection is today. Thanks for reading and have a a great day everyone! |

Nice move! Congrats.
IMO less is definitely more when it comes to watch collecting, and I am always a proponent of consolidating (especially if the watches you are exiting don’t get much wrist time) I personally would have swapped the skydweller for one of the two GMT‘s you have. Then again I am a sucker for skydwellers

Congrats. Wear your new Day date in good health.
I might have kept the Sub and traded the BLNR but as you say, the Sub is probably more easily reacquired if you wanted it back. |

As long as you feel good with the value of the deal, that’s all that matters.

Congrats! I have played with trading my sub, bluesy, and Hulk towards a WG Daytona, but can't see myself with just a 126500ln and a WG Daytona.

Congrats OP! Hard to fault a trade that ends with an amazing DD on your wrist!
Enjoy it to the fullest and make sure to take your lady out for a nice dinner to thank her for pushing you forward; an excellent decision indeed!

Although I’m a big fan of the sub and Sky-D, neither trumps the DD. The polar doesn’t even come close.
Great move imo |

Congrats! RG & sundust is a great combo!
I see your watch has lumed hands instead of full gold as they come for this version and no coronet between the "swiss made". How come?

Well done! Once in a while, we have these moments, less is more in watches. I have done the same. Move the ones you don't wear as often, this way the financial hit is also less painful lol. Congrats
