I will be buying my first rolex with the proceeds from my silver coins or at least some of my silver coins. I like the bigger style Rolex like a submariner or a GMT but I am definitely not sure what I want. Does a Rolex's hold its value well? I am going to buy here for sure and I have already talked to several of the bigger dealers. Any other tips on Rolex ownership would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much.

GMT II Ceramic or none

It will help if you provide a $$$ that you want to spend, if you want Steel or 2tone.... things like that will help

Years ago it came down to the Exp,Sub, & the GMT. I chose the GMT. Four years later I traded it for a present for my wife on our daughters first birthday. Could not do without the GMT & got another 3 years later. Thats almost 30 years ago & I still have it. You can't go wrong with your first Rolex love.

you'll have the most use for the GMT.....it tells you the time in 2/3 different timezones, it has a date, and can even be used as a compass.

The sub, is a very good watch too....but the only diving i do is in the bath tub..and it cost 1% percent more. But, asethetically speaking, i thought the GMT was better looking.

If you dont care for having a date on the watch...get a daytona! i love chrono's.

I have only tried on a Sub so I know I have some research to do but I have time. I am looking to spend between $3,500 and $4,500 so def a used one stainless steel but other then that I am open for debate

I came (or found) TRF looking for information on Rolex, I started off wanting a 14060M Submariner but, after a few months of lurking I changed my mind. to a Pepsi 16710.
In the past year of coming to this forum, the information gathered here has guided me to yearn for a 2 line 14060M and a vintage DateJust.

Within your price range you can buy a used GMT II. You can purchase additional bezel inserts and mix things up now and then. The three inserts are Coke (Blk and Red), Pepsi (Red and Blue), and the all black insert. It's like having three watches, really.

A used DJ would also be in your price range. Both the GMT II and DJ are all-around watches. It is a matter of personal preference and equally important, which model sings to you.

SS Sub 16610, GMT II 16710, and Explorer II 16570 those are the ones you need to focus on

For the first ROLEX, go with a never aging, all time classic, GMT II (Coke/Pepsi).... YOU WILL NEVER REGRET IT.

Believe me, like rest of us, you will buy and flip many more in future but never make the same mistake that many of us have made to regret for ever....NEVER EVER FLIP YOUR FIRST ROLEX !

I would go with the sub as first, because that's the first Rolex I bought! GMT2 or Daytona would be the follow-up. I just have a soft spot for the sports models.

A ND Sub, as others have recommended, would make a very nice first Rolex. My 5512 was purchased by my fiancee as my engagement gift. I, of course, bought her an engagement ring.
