Difficult to get 15550 Blue dial as first piece

Curious as to how difficult to get a 15550ST 37mm blue as the first piece from the AP Boutique.

grey market is pretty disconnected from reality. ROs aren't really selling well there but you're still not gonna get one as your first piece regardless of dial color

Theres a 15550 blue dial brand new selling for $38,500. Just go grey because an AD will be a pain in the ass.

I can see the reason for grey in this case. Thanks!

I have been asking the same question with the boutique for over a year now and they have pretty much said too difficult to get as a first piece in this market. I agree secondary market might know show the demand by pricing, but have been unsuccessful so far. I have been offered the Royal Oak 38mm Chrono as a first piece.

Have you “established” at a boutique yet? Haha

That's not a bad problem to have, did you take it?

If not, curious what you're holding out for...

My thoughts was to hold out for the 37mm blue dial. Was offered the 38mm Chrono again and decided it would be a great first piece second time around. I’m all new to AP so it’s been interesting to learn more about the brand, history, and process of allocations.

Honestly hope we can all obtain that AP we really want, but I am greatful for the 38mm Chrono. For more experienced collectors, is the 38mm Chrono Royal oak a pretty good way to start? Don’t mean to hijack the thread.

All the staple ROs are fantastic, only preference/utility/style separates them

I'll take a wild guess you got the slate dial 38mm chrono, it's great :)

I'm in the 100% opposite boat, sitting on a 37mm white dial looking for a 38mm!

Ding ding ding. Haha. Correct. 37mm white dial is a beautiful piece. My turn to guess…waiting for the Bleu nuit nuage 50? Haha

I am not sure they aren’t selling. The high prices might be the issue, but a hit above MSRP+tax, they do move.

If you are going grey it might be an idea to look at the 15450 also as the visual differences are minimal. I see on Chrono24 so many ads that haven’t moved in months. I guess many people bought at the peak and now can’t/won’t sell for less, but nobody is biting of course. Especially the 14790 are still for sale at ridiculous prices and nobody wants them for those prices.

But even with the 15450, blue dials are expensive. White can be found for lower than 15550 retail, grey a little above and cheapest blue is 10k over current retail.

So if you really want blue, I would say just play the AP Boutique game. Keep showing interest, visit, send a message once in a while, show interest in other models too, like mentioned above, blue 15550 as a first is definitely possible.

Consistency is key! I think ADs appreciate honesty and showing how much you want a certain piece.

My first allocation was a the 15720 diver, followed by the 16202or.

It can happen!

I was originally trying to get another reference which obviously is impossible. It was a long story that couldn’t be explained with just several sentences. But I have been very honest with them about what I am into and just be genuine and consistent. And I think the SA also plays an important part. What I have always wanted to show, based on my case, is that it really does not have a standard formula, it is not that you must buy certain watches in order to get a certain reference, like most of the things in life, it is all about attitude, some wisdom, a good person that advocate for you, and mostly luck, I guess.

Unlikely but not impossible. Try go in person to continue show interest every 3 months or so.

Surprisingly no, the 26315st panda, or either of the Grey dial 38mms would be amazing

7 months in so far with no luck, the search continues

Congratulations. How long did you wait for the 16202OR after your diver?

Did you specifically ask for the 16202OR? I want it too

As a first time buyer I was encouraged to take a good look at colors other than blue if I wanted a realistic opportunity to buy a 15550 at retail.
Been waiting 4 months for a slate and hoping it happens this summer when I get back into town.

Interesting. In Europe it’s the exact opposite of what you’ve suggested as a 37mm RO is far easier to be allocated than the more popular 41mm RO.

My new SA hints any sort of blue or green dials are very unlikely 1st pieces for RO and ROCs in any size. He's very new at the boutique I guess following APs guidelines. I've met him once so far. Met the previous sales twice before he got fired. I've been offered by both of them a couple of ROOs and divers which I turned down. I'm waiting on a RO or ROC.
