Thoughts on the Cobra?

Hello everyone,
I have always been interested in the AP “Cobra” ref.5403BA. What are your thoughts on this reference? Any historical background? Would you buy? Would/do you own one? Randomly found one for sale yesterday, unfortunately it’s yellow gold and I much prefer the white gold one. Cheers!

That is not something that I would consider wearing myself, or by anyone that I know. If you're interested in flipping it, sure why not, but to answer your questions "what are my thoughts" & "would I buy," my answer is "not for me" & "no."

Not interested in flipping for sure… it is an important watch in AP history famously worn by the Shah of Iran in its white gold iteration. The watch had the same movement of the RO. The bracelet is quite a complex piece of work as well. I was just interested in reading opinions on a historically relevant watch that’s it. Thank you for your comment

Sure, if you're interested in its historical significance & it sings to you, why not, then? I couldn't see myself wearing one & I really only buy watches to wear. Curious what you decide to do!

I actually really like the Cobra. Genta's second watch designed at AP.

A caution, there are no links, so if it does not fit you, you are SOL.

I also don't like it. Not imposing my opinion on you but I doubt it'll fit the wrist; definitely not mine though.

Also think WG is better. Definitely not for me (size/style), but a cool watch.

I think this is unisex watch, so it should fit up to 7.5" wrist. I used to see this watch at Keystone website before.

It is kinda cool I guess. but I am not really into Neo Vintage hipster pieces. at least this is how I perceive this piece now with all the social media around watches. I would have to be a hard pass.

Thanks everyone for the comments, highly appreciate reading your feedbacks! I finally decided not to buy it, I have already several yg pieces and I thought this would not get enough wrist time. My decision would have been different had I found the white gold, blue dial version which is the one I really like...

Super cool. Wish they came out with modern re-issue. Dump the codes, start making stuff from the archives

I am pretty sure we will see more 70s and 80s inspired new watch releases in the next years. In fashion, the 80s are clearly back, and with the 222 (which I tried on, loved, but didn’t feel I could pull off) and the new Polo 79 we are already seeing a clear revival of that period.

Unfortunately I’m a fan of the more classical models, but sometimes hope I could be a bit more daring.

In any case, cool statement watch even if you didn’t get it.

I’ve heard that suggestion a few times - they tried with the Re-Master01. Those are now a screaming bargain 2nd hand…
