Click on the attachment (paperclip) icon, choose your file and upload. Files must meet the max requirements noted for the file-type.

Third party hosting sites have their own codes for attached url's

Is there any reason to use an image hosting site like Imgur or Photobucket vs. using the attachment function built into the post editor?

Yes, there is. The upload feature limits the size of the picture while the picture hosters are not.

Uploading on hosting sites is far more streamlined and versatile for batch uploads and have features like auto-resizing built in which makes life simple. I prefer to use that than the native forum paperclip.
