While wearing my Explorer 2 42mm which is less than a year old, I have a few times noticed the crown being unscrewed about 3 or 4 turns. Do you think this is a problem or just happens sometimes with the movement of wearing it. I always screw it down tight. I have only noticed this probably 3 times. But it bothers me. Any thoughts?

That doesn't sound right. I have never experienced that with any watch I've owned. I would have someone take a look at it.

It's not physically possible for it to unscrew itself..

Own hundreds of watches....never had one come unscrewed on its own.

I've been wearing Rolex watches for 30 years and that has not happened to me yet. I suspect there are times when you do not screw the crown down finger tight, or perhaps you loosen it without realizing it.

Sounds like an issue with the case tube. Is it under warranty?

My guess is you're putting your hands in some tight pockets, sleaves or something (&) and it's grabbing the coin-egde of the crown & gradually unscrewing a tiny bit at a time.

I don't believe in long sleeves and my wife's been grabbing in my pockets for so many years that they're loose as hell

sometimes tucking your shirt in etc. its possible. its also possible your not finger 'tightening' it enough. dont kill it but dont baby it. be solid and firm when tightening your crown.

My Explorer 1 may have this issue, it is at RSC now. "Case tube and worn monobloc crown" was what the RSC estimate said.

Mine started by difficulty completely screwing down the crown, so I knew something was wrong.

It cannot unscrew on its own you must be unscrewing it by the friction on your body or even your cloths.How do your wear your watch lose or snug fit, it should be worn just above wrist bone snug fit.And the crown should not be screwed down too tight other wise you could damage the seal in the crown, all it needs is just slight finger tight nothing more.

Another thing to consider is if you might have forgotten to screw it all the way down after adjusting time?

This is happening to me, too, on a new Explorer. Obviously, crowns don’t spontaneously unscrew, but they shouldn’t unscrew with normal wear, either. I’ve noticed it several times now, and I’m concerned that I won’t have noticed it sometime and submerge or splash, allowing egress.

Same here; 42mm explorer 2, 6 months old.

The longer my motorcycle ride goes, the more likely the jacket cuff will unscrew it. During regular days, I will notice it maybe once per month that the crown has become loose, but not totally unscrewed.

I’ve owned my Exp. 214270 mk.2 for about 6 months and have found my crown partially unscrewed 2 times, I tighten it snugly when I reset time once a month.
I wear a sweatband/wristband over my watch when doing anything potentially harmful to my watch, I think the wristband probably contributed to the crown unscrewing a few turns.

Actually, with the same watch, that has happened to me. Mine is 7 months old, glad it's not just me being crazy. I chocked it up to wearing it loosely some days but can't be sure. So I just check it a couple of times a day. Didn't have the issue with my gmt or exp but the crown is wider on the exp II.

This happens all the time on my 16570. I think the explorer ii fits very flat, which I like. Twisting your left wrist to the right can unscrew over time. The bigger question is how come all screws always loosen with wear and don't tighten!

sounds like it’s in need of a service.. never had this issue. i check mine periodically because i’m on boats every day, always tight
