Looking for advice if this watch has been polished or not?

Hey guys;

Would like some input if this watch has been polished or not? It looks good to me without any evidence of polishing but just need another pair of eyes.

Cheers

if it's pre owned and on david's site then it has been at least lightly polished/cleaned up for retail

still looks good to me but i'm not an expert on polishing when it comes to daytonas

Good chance it was lightly polished. I have high praise for DavidSW but that price is extremely out of touch. This watch trades at upper 30s.

That price in this market is stretching it

I would buy this newer 2023 for much less from Tim at Fog City.

If buying from (almost all) retailers expect at the very least a light polish to tidy it up for sale. You may hear otherwise, but IMO this is not a bad thing.

Polishing is only an issue if it has been done badly, or over done. Also, anything in a maxi case could probably do with one to shave it down a bit! (Jokes)

I feel this one is polished more than DSW? Sorry for the stupid questions, I've never purchased from these guys and never a pre-loved watch.

Agree.
It seems to only be a bad thing on TRF.

I don't understand why some people are so obsessed with polished or not. As long as the watch looks good, what's the big deal?

Some people don’t care but I personally will not buy a polished watch even if lightly. It feels the watch has been molested lol. What’s worse is many don’t even mention that it has been polished and try to pass it as new. Dishonest imo. That’s why I only buy from ADs.

It matters on some watches. For example, a poorly polished Explorer II bezel looks awful. A polished Explorer I looks incredible!

If it’s advertised as pre owned and polished I guess that’s fine but I have seen some listed as brand new when they are not. They’ve been polished to look new. To each his own.

Not sure if this also applies in the USA, but in the UK if a watch has been polished even lightly then any remaining manufacturer warranty is invalid in the event of a claim.

I guess just personal preference. None of my watches have ever been polished and I prefer the look of a well-loved watch; all my scratches and dings. for a pre-owned watch, I dont mind it as well but as long as it's done well and not overly polished. I like the sharp lines and crispness of watch that's not polished.

The whole to polish/not polish thing is watch and person specific. In this case, I am more surprised we are not talking about the significant price differences.

even if it’s advertised as unpolished …unless it has factory stickers on it assume it’s polished by the used dealers. They need to advertise as LNIB and add 1-2k on the price

I would because its probably spent countless hours under water and seen the world and many RSC's .

The people most concerned about a polished watch can't identify it. I will say its good to be cautious when spending your hard earned money. In this case the OP should just get that one I linked. Honest and 2023 with a better price. I have had polished watches from DSW and not found them to be poorly done. His 5 digit stuff is not always great. There are other trusted sellers I won't name that I feel have sold many over polished watches. So the whole trusted seller thing does not ensure the description would match a collectors description.

No doubt it looks good but given the option, I will always buy an unmolested watch. I have been lucky to get my watches from ADs but if I ever couldn’t get a watch I want, I would buy such an example. It just has to be described as such and not as brand new.

I also prefer unpolished, especially because we're all subjected to every bad polish job, posted here on TRF, where sharp becomes dull and rounded. And wow that's an expensive watch.

Look at the bezel.

This one has sharper markings than DavidSW's watch, which also has polish residue and soft numbers.

The one for sale on this forum is both cheaper and much better done

The bezel on DavidSW's watch is poorly done in this case. Numbers are soft edged (they should be sharp on that reference) and there is either residue or the paint is worn thin

Its a mess at that price
