Might go Gray for a 126500LN...Am I crazy?
I'm getting married next month and want to mark the occasion. I'm a good customer at 2 AD's, but am fully aware I am nowhere near the spend for a Panda. I asked for a few lesser pieces in the previous months to celebrate the wedding and it doesn't look like they'll be able to deliver. Am I totally out of my mind to go gray for a 126500LN? Looks like prices are in the low $30s and just wanted to pick everyones brain on my idea. I certainly have no intention of selling the watch, but having the price tank after purchase isn't a great feeling. Wondering if anyone has any advice or regret on going gray for you grail piece?
Thanks!! |

You’ll be fine. If that watch tanks in value every other watch you could buy will be worse off. Wear what you want for your wedding!

Just go for a PM OF Daytona. If choosing between Panda and PM OF from AD price difference will be like $3-4 and upgrade to a PM is completely worth it.
Plus you will get that AD game start from a very nice piece. |

Yeah you’ll be fine. In my area, the bundling for a GMT is more than the premium for a Daytona. Just buy it. ADs don’t actually care about your occasions.

I've bought all my watches from grey dealers and never had any regrets it's not worth playing the AD games IMO

I went grey and I am enjoying my Panda now while I'm alive and kicking.
I'd gladly buy it at the AD but that was not going to happen. If you can easily afford it then go for it. Its a special piece to mark one of the most important days of your life. panda12.jpg |

I asked for OF RG Daytona months ago and still crickets. I honestly thought that would be easier to get. I'm relatively established at these AD's too.

While I wouldn't buy many references through a grey dealer, a steel daytona is the big exception! Impossible to buy from an AD without a huge spend. Prices have already fallen a bit and it will likely hold at least most of its value in the coming years. Go for it I say!

Find a new AD. I personally would never feed the used watch market for current production references.
Congrats on the Wedding ! |

That’s a tough position to be in. 30k for a steel piece that isn’t AP or PP is crazy

I hope you have eagle eyes as you will need them to be able to read the time on that watch. (I owned one) I would not want you to be late for your wedding.

I have nothing against going grey but too much of a premium on this one for me.
Though I suppose a wedding is the one day where everything costs twice what it should and we just pay it so why not add in a watch… congrats in advance for the big day. |

I say go ahead.
Having to spend 50-100k just to Get a 13 k watch not worth it. Unless you pose a deal to your AD and say you will buy a big ticket item along with the panda. 15k up charge or so to have the watch right now…I would do it. Save your time and money buying other things to get what you want. Now, if it were trading for 3x or more, it would give me a bit more pause. I think you are safe with the purchase at current market conditions Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I agree with the others that mentioned just purchasing an OF model instead at that price point. I love my 126500LN and wear it often but I would not consider it a 30k+ watch. It is a 16k steel rolex. I completely understand the dilemma though. I say if spending that get a little precious metal in a oysterflex model!

PM OF is also a completely different watch since it's on a rubber bracelet. then there's also the question of is paying 35k for that actually better value than the 126500

I'd go gray. You may lose a bit of money over time, but you'll have the watch on your wrist today.
I like the look of OF Daytona's, but I always prefer a full bracelet watch. If I had an OF Daytona, it would have to be next to a bracelet watch. I'm going to go gray on a stainless ceramic Daytona. |

If you want it and can afford it you should get it while you can still enjoy it. All the best with it.

How much is this wedding going to cost you? Not that I want to know the dollar amount but it's funny how all that cash for one day is fine but possibly losing a few quid on a lifetime watch is what concerns you.

$13k over sticker plus tax. Your call. I waited 9 months for a 126500.
