Starting AP

So my small collection is all Pateks right now. Decided i wanted an AP for my next watch. Was originally thinking a 26240st. But after seeing a 15202 jumbo i want a 16202 😂. I have 0 relationship with any AP boutique. Do i go in and maybe buy a code or just go grey.

Leaning towards grey because of the hassle

Thanks for the input

A Jumbo is usually your 5th or 6th allocation from the boutique.

go grey if you only want a 16202, the current grey price is much smaller than the amount you'd need to spend to get one from AP

You've got a long ways to go. I'd go grey and enjoy it now.

They make less than 2,000 jumbos a year so it’s highly unlikely you’ll get one. I personally wouldn’t buy anything I didn’t want so I’d probably go grey and buy it now, unless you want to build a long term relationship with AP and really like their other offerings.

Go grey! 15202's are in the $50's and 16202's in the $60's. Its still a premium but worth it if you can avoid nonsense AP games!

If you have a collection of PPs, I believe it's possible to get the 26240st blue or the 15510st blue as your first watch from boutique. Just let them know that you have some PPs and express your desire to begin your journey at AP with the 16202 or higher models as your target. Of course, this could simply be an excuse to demonstrate your intention of establishing a long-term relationship with them. However, if your heart is set on the 16202 as your very first watch, then I suggest exploring the grey market.

Have you actually tried or know someone that tried and worked?

I doubt that having a collection of PP's is going to change how the AP boutique deals with you.

Yes, my friend got a 26240ST green, and I got a 15510 blue from the boutique as our first AP. The PP collection is proof that you are a watch collector and unlikely to be a flipper. Of course, your occupation and your business reputation help the most. Please note that there may be differences in different countries.

Go grey. Jumbo is worth EVERY single penny you have to pay over MSRP and not wait.

Are you walking into the boutique with your collection or showing photos on your phone ?

Grey. They are trading ~US$68k BNIB (at least in Singapore). You would have to spend far more on other AP’s before you get this

I think it depends on locations. I have Pp as well.

I am not sure about your relationship with the AP boutique. I have 6 allocations from AP and 2 grey Ap. I am still waiting for a Jumbo. Sad to say that I have been informed that the chance of getting a Jumbo as my next piece is near to zero due to clients(big whales) who are still waiting for the same reference .

It's disappointing. However, I appreciate the honesty and enjoy the process.

I suggest going grey.

Everyones journey is different - a steel jumbo was my 3rd piece from the boutique (it was during the 50th anny year) and my next piece was a 15407st

I was allocated a Royal Oak 41mm after a 12 month wait, but have been told "No chance" of a Jumbo next. I think grey is the way to go!
