Hi guys,

Got these two pics off another forum...but I thought I'd just share it with all of you so that you can see the subtle differences in the two dials. Not sure what the reasoning behind this was, but it's there nevertheless!!

(Observe the two parallel red lines)

I think it was John who mentioned on anther thread that Rolex used to have two dial suppliers. That could account for the minor difference in the way the print lines up. All four faces were obviously made for the older Zenith movement. I think Rolex took all the work in house after that time. So my guess is you would see more uniformity among newer dials.

Man, I can't figure it out. The Daytona dials do NOTHING for me, I look at them and all I think is "Yeah? So what?"

I feel like an imposter Rolex fan because I can't even pretend to care about the Daytona, while everyone else always seems so thrilled by it. What am I missing???

Micah, my friend, this post was NOT about whether the Daytona dials are good looking or not...it was about the difference in printing spacing on the dials!!

Nevertheless, Micah was waxing about how the D doesn't do it for him. Personally, I have to agree. The only 'hold' they have on me is that the movement is prolly the best (in terms of accuracy, robustness and ease to work on) chrono movement made.

Beyond that... why?

As a general proposition, I tend to agree with you, Micah. There is one exception, though. That's the meteorite. With the greyish cast and the red hands on the subdials, red sweep hand, and red lettering it makes for an outstanding combination. Even my wife was impressed with it when I tried on one in the store.

I feel the same way - I just can't get excited about any Daytona, except maybe a vintage PN style.........

I have to agree with Ed here. I'm not much of a fan of Daytonas except for that awesome Meteorite dial. Maybe on a WG bracelet. That just happens to be my desktop.
