I got the call from my AD and.........

I have been on the cue for quite a while for the new Yachtmaster 42mm Titanium model, with a second choice of a Deepsea with the Cameron blue fade to black dial. I got an email that they had a Cameron Deepsea for me if I wanted it, so after getting over my initial disappointment that it wasn't the YM42Ti, I decided that it was worth checking out. I had owned the original model of the Deepsea back in about 2010, but I did not like how narrow the bracelet was on such a large watch and the ring lock thing, so after a short ownership I sold it and did not look back. I did like some of the features of the watch like the larger crown, the domed Sapphire, the Ti caseback and the glide-lock buckle, but it was uncomfortable to wear. Fast forward to today and the latest Deepsea model; it still has all the things I liked before. But as far as those that I did not like well they are better; the bracelet is corrected - wider and comfortable to wear and I am fairly sure that the Ring lock ring itself is smaller. At any rate it certainly seems like it is not as noticeable as it used to be. The ringlock ring is pretty hard to read unless you look at it at an angle, so it is not as much in your face as before. And then there's the dial, wow this is pretty good for a Rolex diving watch, I like it a lot.

While I was waiting for the Deepsea to come out I noticed that thay had a Yachtmaster 42mm Titanium in one of the display cases, so they got that out for me to look at and I found it a bit underwhelming. The Ti case is cool and I like the black ceramic raised numeral bezel insert, but it has no presence, it's kind of bland looking, but still cool in a low key way.

To make a long story short the Deep sea came home with me and the YM42mmTi is still on cue, and I am not disappointed in the least.

if I may ask, what was your impression about the Ti Yatch Master? My AD told me he has seen one and when they took it in hand the impression was a bit weird, particularly because the super light weight, making it to feel it was not a Rolex.

I have looked at this watch in pictures and really admired it for some time. But I have found that the look is quite often different in person, and to me this is a good example. I took this picture with my phone of it yesterday at the AD and I think it looks really good. I am not trying to say that my photographic skills are exceptional at all. I liked several watches this past year that I had only seen in pictures and then when I saw them in person, eh not so much. This watch did not disappoint me that much, it just seemed kind of dull or lack luster. Admittedly many diving watches are a bit dull as most just have a black dial and bezel insert. Now, don't get me wrong I still like the YM42Ti but maybe not as much as I thought I would, visually. I like the Rolex Yachtmaster 42mm Titanium and will stay on the list to get one, at least for near future.



As far as weight goes due to the Titanium material of the case and bracelet, it is a different experience compared to a steel watch, but to me that is not a problem. I have owned many Titanium watches and I still do. The YM42Ti is not a really large watch so it does not feel that different to me, but it definitely has a lighter feel and I think that is an advantage in wearing comfort. Some people have a misguided opinion that more weight equal more strength or toughness. This is not the case so it does not matter to me.

I own several large Titanium watches and I am glad they are Ti because of the weight savings and I have no doubt as to their toughness, even if they are light in weight. Titanium alloys have the highest strength to weight ratio of any metals. Here are some of the Titanium watches that I own and enjoy wearing because they are light.

I am a previous owner of Deep Sea. Moved to a Red SD 43 and got the cyclops removed. I also own a steel Ploprof and an Emperor Tuna. You have great taste

What strap to you have on your Tuna? I have been looking for an alternative to the OEM.

After you get used to the weight of the DS, and when you get the call for the YM, the weight difference between the two will be startling to say the least. Come back to the forums to convey that experience when it happens!

Agreed. I find the titanium Pelagos (LHD) quite refreshing to wear, and every bit as tough as any other diver, maybe even more so.
