First Day Date from AD - would love opinions!!

I promise this will be my last post on this but I really would love opinions on this. I was originally deciding between two Day Dates but this new one just came available!! Which DD does everyone like best?

WG 40 vs YG 36

Picking one of them up tomorrow. I really like the size of the 36 better and the color combo but worry it’s going to be too flashy.

For me, the 40.
BTW, that wrist shot is not how it really looks on you.
It’s deceiving lens distortion.
You seem to have my wrist size.
Here is 40 on 6.5” wrist.

i was torn on the white gold vs. rold gold day date with green dial. it's a 12k price difference. my wife says if you're going to go with a day date you want to have the gaudy audacity of a fat block of gold. i guess she has a point. i wish i could buy both but you know... ;)

Of those two options - YG36. The WG40 is very bland for a $40k watch IMO.

The day date comes in a tremendous number of configurations. I don’t feel like this is a watch where you may have to “settle” just to get one. Nor should you at that price point. Try on several, take your time. I prefer the 36mm and like you passed on a family heirloom yellow gold day date as it is too flashy for my lifestyle. But, I do think 36YG champagne dial is THE Rolex of Rolexes.

I'd pick the original 36mm you posted with diamond dial. This white dial has the outdated roman numerals

If they will swap the dial to the new deconstructed roman numeral dial on the YG, I'd take that. Otherwise, I'd hold out until they got that version.

The WG would be my pick by a mile but I can't tell you which one you like more. Sounds like you might be leaning towards the 36mm. You'll get a great result either way. Nice problem to have.

For me, neither of them. If I'm spending $40k for a watch it had better be in the exact configuration I want. For you, you should do the same. Go to the Rolex website and look at all of the different combinations they have to offer. Pick the one that speaks to you the most and hold out for that particular watch. Don't just settle because you happen to find one that is available but isn't the EXACT configuration you are after.

WG40 for sure. I dailied that exact black dial spec for a year and absolutely loved it, class and a bit of stealth on the amazing presidential bracelet

The YG 36 white dial is about as classic as a Rolex gets, can't go wrong with that choice.

WG40 is my favorite in that model. Spectacular. 36mm would be too small on my petite wife.

I would take the YG36 anytime. An absolute class watch and is beyond iconic. Yeah, if I am dropping serious coin into it I want the flash. If I want to go stealth, I have a lot of other watches that fit that, but if I want to go in large and in charge - there can be only one!!

No other watch can be as flashy and be such a statement piece. Other watches can aim lower, but none aimed higher than the DD.

Whichever one works best on your wrist.

My preference is YG, silver dial with index markers.

36mm WG with other dial color. Yellow gold is dangerous to wear nowadays. WG gets less attention.

YG 36mm. I have the 118238 with Champagne Dial, Roman Numerals.
Yes, it definitely has some flash to it, but I have a decent rounded collection for all occasions.

Get the YG. The DD40 is a great size and has the classic proportions of the DD36.

WG 40 out of those two,

If you go YG get the YG 40.
Don't settle for the 36

Both are winners, but I'd go yellow gold 36 mm. I've got sub 7 inch wrists and I can carry off the 36 mm nicely. I love that white gold DD 40 though, but would go with the other in this situation.

36 DD yg for me. I actually like these old style romans on 36 and am less and less a fan of the deconstructed. I suspect you will know the moment you have them in hand.

36mm, Yellow Gold, White Roman Numerals and a smooth bezel. Stunning look and won't eat your French cuffs.

This.

This is a lot of money. There should be no comprise. It should be something you love, with exact size, metal, dial etc. that you want.

Personally, for that money, I’d find a nice used 36mm platinum (smooth bezel) and ice blue dial. But, YG also doesn’t look good on my skin tone.
