5740 market and discontinuation

hi everyone,

i am still struggling to find a 5740... the few dealers that have them are not flexible on prices and nothing new 2021/2022 below 220-230K...

anyone knows if this is close to being discontinued end of this year? i am just not getting why would dealers sleep on a heavy hitter like this with little flexibility on pricing...

i am not sure the same thing is true in US or asia.

thanks for anyone who have insights.

Nobody except PP can say when 5740 will be discontinued.

The reason why dealers are not flexible may be due to the fact that they bought it at a high price and expect to have their margin and not take a blow.

Do the grey dealer have the watch in stock? Or is it the case that it needs to be sourced?

What are you looking to spend? You only live once, if you have the funds buy it now and enjoy it

A 2019 model is coming to auction next month at Phillip's Geneva auction. Try your luck there.

Auction results have been soft for non-discontinued references - at least Sotheby's results from last month were about 15-25% lower than what I've seen grey dealers price their stock at.

5740 isn’t close to being discontinued, even if the G goes in the next couple of years there will be an R and a P and maybe even a J. 👍

A P would be sweet. But other than special anniversary limited edition, I don't think we get P Nautilius before?

Easily—now doubt about it. And as always, there would be little chance in getting one

What are new 5740s going for currently on platforms such as moda? Unfortunately I'm not a member on these sites, I'd appreciate the input of someone who is.

I've seen them going for as low as CHF 205'000.00 on Chrono24 so I'm assuming you could pick one up for ~CHF 190'000.00, right?

Thanks for this. I am also looking for a 5740g. I believe it will be discontinued this year as well.

recent auction result at Dr. Crott. the price of 162.5k eur includes already the premium an VAT. that means 10% over retail (which is in Germany after the last price increase ~149k eur) for a new like 5740g.

Check watchcollecting.com there is one currently for bid which should end in 6 days. Previous prices very reasonable.

Good luck!

I’ve bid on the last few that popped up. All under 200k but still higher than my target price.

As someone else said, if you want the watch just buy one at the best price you can negotiate. Life is too short to fret over $220,000 watches if they are something you are able to purchase. It is what it is, which is, a seller's market on that piece.

$226K is not a bad price for a 2022 5740G. Especially if it has the newer micro-adjustable clasp.

220k is out of my range, but I enjoy shopping for the cheapest price. part of the deal/ journey. frankly, I don't ever need one specific watch. there is always another I can buy but if I snatch one up at a good price great if not no worries.

First time I am hearing of watchcollecting.com, has anyone purchased from any of their auctions? Any issues with authenticity? 6% buyers premium feels a bit steep albeit still less than Sotheby's.

Found about it here but didnt purchase anything. Prices do look reasonable for closed auctions compared to Chrono24 etc.

Is the demand for the 5740 still high? Has anyone here had a recent success securing one on the grey market, and if so how much did you pay?
