Three for the Next Generation

My father died recently and left me some money. Without boring you with the details of why, I haven’t really been comfortable having the money from him, and didn’t really know what to do with it.

But then I had an idea. I decided to simply pay it forward and, with the help of my AD, bought watches for my two daughters and son-in-law - a 7200R for each of my daughters, because of their grace, elegance and classic style, and a 5167/1A-001 for my son-in-law of one year because - well - because he’s married to my daughter and loves her deeply.

I gave them their watches this past Sunday afternoon in the middle of the lake on our boat after having just finished wakesurfing. I told them they were from my dad - their grandfather - which is mostly true.

He didn’t know it at the time, but he really was “merely looking after it for the next generation.”

Sorry to hear about your father. Condolences to you for your loss.

Very generous and nice gesture - I'm sure they will enjoy their Patek very much.

Sorry to hear about your father passing.

I’m sure your kids love their gift. It must have felt awesome to be able anchor their grandfather with them forever and moving forward these watches will most like be passed down to their kids and so on.

You sir are a class act.

Very sorry to hear about your father. What a nice gesture on your part. Your son in law must have shit himself.

Thank you to everyone for the kind words, as they’re very much appreciated. It was a reminder for me of something that certainly already knew - it really does feel much better to give than receive.

My son-in-law isn’t aware that although his 5167/1A-001 was less to purchase than each 7200R, it’s worth considerably more on the open market. He may figure it out, but I’m not going to tell him, because it wouldn’t matter to him anyway.

Good point.

Very nice idea, OP. The meaning those watches now hold goes way beyond their monetary equivalence.

Amazing story, extremely generous, and so sorry for your loss. They will enjoy those Patek's for years to come....and then continue to pass them down. That's just what you do with Patek's :)
