While Sub is a great watch, I wouldn't consider its gold version as "one and done".

If you are willing to drop 30-40k for a watch, get a Daytona or a DD40 for weekends and then SS Sub Date as a daily beater. That kind of 2 piece collection I can get behind as a "two and done". :)

Even after finding a grail (or multiple grails) I still like to have new to me watches that I've liked but not owned. No such thing as a one and done for me. No such thing as a grail satisfying my desired to collect. I ask you, did Indy give up archeology because he found the grail?

Could be for me. Was thinking about doing it with the white gold GMT.

It can be as it can easily be worn daily and can be worn with suits or t-shirts.

In terms if it's good enough, that depends on the person. For me a 3 watch collection is perfect.

It wouldn't be for me. I prefer something in SS as a one and done for the durability. But to each their own!

If I was to have only one watch, that would be my choice.

Each to their own, not sure I’d want one watch but if I did I’d still be proud to own a Rolex ..

I could never have one watch, but I could see that. Rolex icon, precious metal for stealth wealth, versatile. I think the minimum well rounded Rolex collection is a Day Date/Datejust/Sky Dweller AND a Submariner/GMT-Master II/Explorer. Pick one of the three from each set and you'll have a perfect pair.

The white gold with blue dial like the post above mine could be a one and done. I'm just not as fond of the current black dial with blue bezel. Looks like a SS Sub someone slapped a blue bezel on. Seems off to me and not as special as the all blue.

It could be. I’d rather have one watch I love than three watches I quite like.

But that one is expensive enough, I could switch it for 3 watches I love so easy choice for me - I’ll take a bit of variety.

You need to think do you want to worry about having a $44K watch on your wrist all the time. Just wearing a $10K watch makes me nervous enough about losing it, theft, damage, etc. This is typically why at the end of the day I think SS is the way to go, and you get some variety in the mix.

A stainless steel no date blue bezel would be my one and done…

I don t like gold, it is too heavy and soft… stainless steel is a better metal for a watch. Let us keep the gold in the safe, where it belongs :)

As usual we agree Mike.

I also think the previous WG Submariner Date is much nicer

It’s the one I have never traded or sold in 8 years since I bought it. This guy never made it to the list of cuts or potential trade. Is it a one and done, not sure for me as I am fortunate to have more than one. But, like I said, this watch won’t be going anywhere except to the RSC when needed.

One and done would certainly be the batman or pepsi gmt. I own the sub right now and to be honest, I'll take a gmt functionality anyday over a useless dive bezel. I've been wearing my Panerai gmt far more than my sub, especially when I'm travelling.
