Basel Fairs may come and go......but this baby still remains the best!!
In all these recent years, Rolex have churned out a number of new models.........but the one with which they scored a home-run would have to be this one!!!
This is the COMPLETE watch - I don't think Rolex or any other watchmaker in the world can do anything to improve it!! JJ

Sorry JJ, I have to disagree with you in this case, The SubDate has the edge over the GMTIIC according to me, specification-wise I think the only difference is the Glidelock clasp and the higher depth rating (and off course the missing GMT function) if I am not wrong informed. Also just by the looks, my personal opinion is that the new ceramic SubDate has the advantige over the GMTIIC (SS wise anyway)
But here is my list why the SubDate is better looking then the GMT (this refers to the SS model) 1. The SubDate han NON polished center links 2. The Sub bezel is alot 'cleaner' the GMTIIC's is too busy according to me! 3. The green hand and the green text on the GMT is not that good looking in the long run IMHO, I would have wanted a red GMT hand! 4. The GMT complication, also does the dial more busy with the extra hand and the green details. 5. The GMT complication is not that useful either and is not used by me often (I dont dive often either but who cares:-) 6. The glidelook clasp on the Ceramic SubDate is superior to the clasp on the GMTIIC 7.Overall I think this new SubDate is more classier and understated then the GMTIIC and I really think it takes the GMTIIC hand down But each to his own I guess, everybody should love their Rolex like you do IMHO, and for me I liked the GMTIIC really much but I dont 'love' it :-) For me the ceramic SubDate is the true winner! cheers /masterkiller

JJ, the TT GMT IIc sure is a lovely watch although Masterkiller does make a lot of valid observations.
I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder... PS Great pix! |

All very subjective, but that GMT is gorgeous and a fantastic all round package. The big case just seems to work as well. Very nice.

I would like to add a remark to my point 3
'The green hand and the green text on the GMT is not that good looking in the long run IMHO, I would have wanted a red GMT hand!' If Rolex should decide to do Pepsi, Coke, Rootbeer bezels I dont think it would look good with the green GMT hand! it really should have been RED! other wise ot will be far too many colors.... IMHO of course! /masterkiller

Well it's nice, but a Rado would top it, for sure.

Gonna disagree with both of you. For sheer robustness, functionality and subdued eloquence give me the Exp-II every time!

I would have to say, the can improve the TT GMT IIC by getting rid of the white lettering and going to gold, as well as the date wheel..just my 2..

That's great news that the best watch in the world already exists. All watch makers can now cease all R&D saving millions of pounds. We can all go out and get the TT GMT and the Rolex Forum and all watch forums can be closed down. We will start TGMTF and marvel at just the one watch.

I'm with ya JJ!
The green hand and lettering was what made me fall in love with this watch. The new sub looks so monochrome in comparison.

The Steel and gold GMTC is a true stunner. Haven't seen the Ceramic Sub counterpart in the flesh as yet, but the bezel DOES seem to have a classier look......I never could understand the fascination with the Explorer 2.. I always thought they looked just like Accutrons.....I had a 1966 Explorer on a Rolex lizard strap with what I guess was a gilt dial..Completely colorless black. One of the most beautiful watches ever made. Why in the world Rolex changed to a grey black has escaped me for 40 years...Oh well, that's rock&roll.

GMT IIc
JJ, of course your selection falls under the section of - to each his own! I do love the GMT IIc in TT but to suggest that it is the best ever may be an overstatement. I certainly respect JJ and his opinion, we all need to step back and let the new releases settle in before the coronation.
It seems as though every year we bash the new releases only to take a more favorable position once the actual watches begin showing up in the stores. I would suggest that the determination of the greatest be made in December after we have all seen these new pieces in person. That all being said, JJ picked a classic beauty and it would make my final five, but when it was first shown at Basel quite a few of us were less than in love! Thanks JJ for reminding me to sit back and analyze these new watches before judging them! JJ, your experience and leadership is invaluable. |

I love the Rolex TT watches, always have. I too would love to have a TT GMT IIc, no doubt. If I had unlimited funds, it would be an all-gold GMTIIc. Love the yellow gold.

Agreed, JJ. The 11671x is probably the only release of the last five years that was received well and had sustained success.
I expect the new Sub will do just as well, if not better.
