Which Aquanaut is the best for a collector?
After some years I am thinking i should also have an aquanaut in my small collection.
It’s an easy choice when you have only one or two PP… but…. …which Aquanaut would you choose when you are looking for one which is not completely mainstream, has something special and something which is typically for that product line. Steel, Gold, 3hands or Chrono which color? |

I’ve tried a bunch of them and the 5164r feels the most special to me. Get some heft from the gold but still a very very easy everyday watch to wear

5650g, preferably double sealed. Has to be double sealed for true collector.

My grail of all grails. Maybe I will be allocated one. I also love the 5167/1A. I believe it holds a niche position in collections as it’s one of the few Pateks where you can order both a bracelet and a band. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

If you want something special, have a look at the advanced research 5650 or the japan and Singapore special editions. |

5167A for daily wear, 5167R as part of a smaller collection.
5968A if you want a complicated reference and your wrist size allows it as ts3 pointed out already. |

I always prefer sports watches in steel as they are lighter. PP discontinues most steel sports watches, they will always be more "collectible" in my opinion. |

I had the 5164a and now have 5167r. The 5167r feels more special and less common.

I love my 5164a. Not sure its "best for a collector" as that only I suppose means you are concerned with future value? If you want something that would do that, I guess 5650 as mentioned above would be better. I wear my 5164a all the time, to me that is what matters most.

I had 5164R is very nice but if I have to do it again , I’ll probably do the SS version just because it’s easier to manage, gold is softer .

+1 But for something more obtainable, probably 5164A. Pairs with any occasion or dress code and is horologically interesting while being also being discreet Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

I believe to remember it was 2 or 3 years rather than 1 year and rarity alone is not enough. On top they probably still made a few thousand. My bet would be that most people will always prefer the larger 5167.
Personally I like the size of 5165 but most on the market are in a sad polishing state as they were worn hard in their early days and are around 15 years old. |

I do agree that many of the examples I've seen for sale have their cases and bezels over polished which is a shame |

I think the “best” aquanaut is the one that you like the best. It’s a very subjective question and at still-inflated prices I would not buy one just for investment or “collectibility” purposes. I have a 5167a which suits me the best. If I want a rare or complicated patek, I wouldn’t buy an aquanaut.
