Online AP registration of grey market unworn watches

To those who purchased new/unworn AP from the grey sellers, were you able to register those watches online with AP? Also, what date did you enter for the start of the warranty? Or did the seller register the timepiece. Any information is appreciated. Best regards

Yes, insofar as extending 3-year warranty. You enter the serial number of the watch, as well as the warranty number (on AP “credit” card). The watch will show the original date of register (which started the initial 2-year warranty), as well as the additional 3-year warranty year.

Example ...

Warranty Starts: 7/1/2022
Warranty Ends: 7/1/2025

This means the unworn watch was first “activated” in the AP system on 7/1/2020 by the original purchaser.

Hi Illiguy, This is very helpful. One question if you do not mind, does AP activate the unworn watch as soon as it goes out of the boutique? All the best.

I don’t know definitively, as I’ve only purchased grey and not from AP. I assume the answer is “Yes”, but will defer to others.

Just to confirm at least with your experience, when you register an unworn grey AP watch online under your name, the watch is already activated at a date other than the date you attempted to register the watch. Thanks much

I know for sure that AP Authorized Dealers activate the warranty at the time of delivery. They have a little device that functions as the warranty card reader. Boutiques probably use the same reader. When you go online and register for the 3 year extension, you will know the original activation date.

If the watch came from and AP Boutique, the boutique activates the additional 3 year warranty on the original owner’s behalf.

Yes, the boutique activates it and notify via an email confirmation normally sent by your SA

The “3 year extension” is a whole bunch of BS.
AP only wants you to register so they can track if the watch has been flipped.

Is there a way to remove a watch from AP online registration? It seems like the answer is “No”, and one can only add ... but wasn’t sure if others have successfully removed a watch.

I assume if a watch is sold/transferred to a new owner, and said owner then activates the watch, the previous owner’s registration of the watch also ceases?

Yes I believe thats what happens.
My friend did purchase a watch from a Boutique that they never registered for him, and so I suppose they don't care really who it goes to.
It seems pretty random whether the SA registers it to your email or not.

Quick add on to this thread...what happens to any warranty after a customer re-registers a watch sold to the grey market which remains new effectively (which had already been registered originally when obtained from whatever boutique). I was advised that if I re-register a watch it will impact whatever initial warranty duration was in place. Can anyone explain what negative impact this will have on my ownership and warranty from the time it was initially activated?

I don’t think it will impact the initial warranty duration, the duration of the warranty started from the date of the first purchase and end at 5 years from that date. May be the seller didn’t want you to register in your name because when you register, AP will know that he is the flipper.

All three of my APs were registered by the boutique when I picked them up (i.e., by the time I got home and checked they were showing in my AP account).

That's what I actually thought...exactly what you indicated...not sure why any full or extended duration would be applicable to any subsequent owner, though I do know of a few situations where a sale may void certain aspects of that, so this is why I was asking. I do agree it would indicate the flipper is a flipper.

Anyone else have any thoughts or experience with this? Or is it not worth it to even re-register it?

You should register that watch in your name, so AP knows that you are the present owner. If you don’t register, you will not know the expiration date of the warranty.

My boutique didn't automatically activate my watch online. I had to go on the website and register it myself.
