Going to NYC - AP Boutique?

Heading to NYC next week for some work, so I thought I might stop by the Boutique. Wanted to know how worth it it would be - if I wanted to pick up a new diver or something. Would they even have anything to try on? Just overall wanted to know if it was worth a visit - I don't have a ton of time to waste while I'm there. Thanks

If you see it as a wasted trip if they don’t have anything there and then that you like AND is available to buy immediately, then I’d give it a miss as it sounds like you might get too wound up.

I don’t know currently whether they have anything to show or not. But it’s a very good place if you want to stop by and register your interest with one of the sales people. Be sure to go on the web and set up a visit time before you go.

It's more along the lines of

" they don’t have anything there OR that you like OR is available to buy immediately"

Of course I don't expect them to have exactly what I want, I'm not stupid - am just trying to gauge what it will be like - I'd like to at least try some stuff on while registering my interest. That's my idea of a fulfilling trip at least.

With AP it’s definitely worth going in to say Hi as it helps to build the relationship. I’ve seen people build grail watch collections in 18 months from no prior relationships all because they had the time to keep visiting the relevant boutiques and the funds to say yes as watches were offered.

If you do go, you'll want to make an appointment since I think they might still be at reduced capacity for people in the store at any single time.

If they do have stuff to look at besides codes, they'll probably pull it from the back.

And best window shopping to actually see pieces will be of course on 47th street, even if you have to brave the off putting sales tactics.

I will never understand these questions of what does the AD or boutique have and is it worth visiting. We don't know and you will only find out if you go. Like anything else in life, if you don't try you won't know.

Call them up, carry a conversation and explain to them your in the city for business and that you would like to stop and visit with the anticipation of trying some watches on and potentially buying a diver. It's literally that easy. I have no idea why a large majority of people on the Rolexforums don't understand its literally that simple. Absolutely mind boggling.

Good luck.

It is literally not that easy since AP NYC, to me at least won’t acknowledge they have ROO to show. I get the dont know when available line.

Unfortunately that hasn't been my experience. I've called up the NY boutique and gotten no information. Maybe it's just my luck. Thus I thought I might inquire here before I set up an appointment.

That’s same with every AP boutique in that they won’t disclose what they will have there on the day to try on, I think partly cause of security And partly cause they really don’t know.

Just visit and check it out, they are usually very nice and welcoming. Well worth a trip even if they don’t have what you want. Also AP don’t just sell to anyone especially any piece that’s remotely semi hard to get so even dropping by and registering interest might get you something nice in future.

Folks, I see nothing wrong with inquiring.

For some collectors here, it's quite a hike to get to a boutique. And it's worse now that AP killed almost all their AD accounts and went boutique-exclusive in the US.

Given the current state of the watch market, and its weirdness / sickness, it's possible that some of us who live near the NYC boutique, or frequent it, can report back on inventory.

Let's all chillax a bit.

NYC is high on crime lately so don't wear a Rolex or day dream while you are walking around.

In fact, expect to be followed on your way in and out of the boutique.

I'm an overtly paranoid guy, though.

It's a good place to stop in and get a glass of water if you're hot and thirsty. If you're polite, and they like you, you might even be allowed to use the bathroom.

Exactly. To those who say it's not that easy,
It actually is. You have to understand, these AD's and boutiques may literally receive a hundred calls a day about a watch. They are just as fed up with these phone calls as you are in trying to get a watch. It's not the phone calls that drive them crazy it's how the phone calls go.
Perfect example; "Do you have any Royal Oak? Which one? Uh the blue dial one. No. What about silver? No. Uh okay. Do you have a black dial? No". Then it just keeps going on all day like that.

Flippers making constant phone calls trying to get any watch. Mix that in with a handful of qualified buyers who really want the watch. This is why dealers don't tell you what they have. A face to face meeting is key in building a relationship. For those of you who can't due to distant restraints then you need to up your communication skills via phone, text, emails, whatsapp, etc.

If you want it to happen it will happen, don't give up.

That makes complete sense, which is why I thought it may be good to ask here first before going - NYC is not local to me, so I wanted to make sure it would be worth it - didn't realize the firestorm it would kick up

I used to live in New York for a while before Miami and I was actually in NYC boutique last week, spoiler: the store is empty. They only had 3 models on display, 2 code 11.59 and another one concept edition. That was it. My friend buys from them for a while now and unless you have a good relationship with a rep and purchase history, you not getting anything.

Yup.

And this is why people ask. We all jumped on the OP, but this is exactly my point.

Not everyone can pop into the NYC Boutique, it's a bit of a hike for some of us, so that's why the question comes up.

I miss the days when you can actually *see* stuff in the case.

I see you’re here in the UK, if you’ve been actively pursuing an AP from AP House or Harrods and haven’t been offered anything in 2 years then I’m not saying you’re doing anything wrong but whatever you’re doing there’s clearly room for improvement. If you’re not already dealing with AP House or Harrods then I’d recommend it as the people are great.
