Code 11.59 15210ST/26393ST worth it?

Hey folks,

Trying to determine my asks for next year and looking for some insight.

I've been advised that it may be helpful to potentially add a Code to my collection (between my wife and I we currently have 4 AP).

I've looked at the codes a few times in person and while I like the details, I am not sure I can totally buy into the value prop. It's not a dress watch really (too thick), it's not a sports watch (water resistance). No quick change straps and seemingly not great choices.

The three-hander is a bit bland IMO. Plus if I wanted to have a round steel sports watch, I already own an FXD and a vintage Rolex 16710.

Now don't get me wrong, I wouldn't mind owning a green code Chrono but at $~35k for a 26393 I may as well be getting a new grey 126500 Daytona WITH a bracelet as the arguably most iconic watch for all occasions....

All depends what you are after. Adding the code gets you a grail piece or something you want from AP?

I have the steel chrono in blue and love it. Wouldn’t trade it for a Daytona ever (just look at the movement…).

I personally find the 3 hander a bit boring as well, though the guillochage dial makes it significantly more interesting than the previous laquered dials.

That said I’d never buy a watch I don’t really love so probably you shouldn’t either.

Don’t buy it thinking you need to. That’s BS. You’re already a good customer.
Only buy it if you love it. The code was my 6th ap after 3 royal oaks and 2 offshores- didn’t help me get anything.

I really like the beige 3 hander - ceramic case is interesting and the smoke adds something extra to the dial. It’s very comfortable, gets more wear than my Daytona. IMG_2968.jpeg

I have two and if I had to go down to one, I would keep the three hander. It’s very unique and different from everything else out there. I will always have one in my collection.

Personally love the new SS codes. I have divers for swimming and I’m pretty good with a strap changing tool so your cons don’t really apply to me. Case, dial, and crystal design on these codes are bringing a fresh change to AP when you have a bunch of keyboard warriors saying the brand has become a one trick pony without actually paying attention to complications, crazy world these days.

I picked up my Code Steel and Ceramic Chronograph 10 days ago and I'm absolutely in love with it. I highly recommend it, the new dials is beautiful and the steel and ceramic specifically to me wears so comfortably. This is a high end, haute horology chronograph and it shows. This is my 3rd AP, FWIW.

Just buy the jumbo grey - prices have come down a lot. Why buy another watch in the hopes of getting what you want when you can just buy what you want grey.

Prices have materially come down so folks need to think about this option as it’s financially viable again.

If the “journey” is important to you and you like the code, then by all means, get a code and continue your journey towards a jumbo

Both are doable for first time buyers. I'd expect some months of wait but nothing too long.

Being told to spend $35,000 on a watch you don’t want, just to have the opportunity to buy another watch that is $35,000, is insane. I refused to do it with AP when they played that game with me two years ago. The SA from AP Bal Harbor called me and offered a code. The one he wanted me to buy was something like $42,000. Told me it would also “help.” I literally burst out in laughter, as this was particularly right after the massive marketing flop of this joke watch. I asked him if he would spend $42,000 from his own personal funds on of all things anCODE “11:59”. He also laughed and tried to dance around the topic. I said no no no Harold you be honest with me. He said of course not. Told him I’d buy one when he bought one and we could have matching codes, until then, no code. We had a good laugh over this watch. Can’t believe people ACTUALLY buy it.

The fact that a watch is forced on you is a real turn off. It’s like a woman who is totally into you- makes me think she’s low value and I don’t want her. I want the ones who are a challenge.

Now if you REALLY want to get in good graces with your boutique and prove your passion and love for AP, I’d recommend you forget the CODE 11:59 and inquire to get on the list for the Millenary. I’d go Chrono personally but the three handed is nice as well, probably best to just tell your SA you’ll accept whatever comes first. A true representation of haute horlogerie and the pinnacle of what AP is capable of when they get their best minds into a room.

Just bought a mint 2023 16202 from a reseller for $65,000. So you might want to consider buying preowned rather than purchasing something you may not be in love with.

I guess this counts as funny/clever. While some of the Millenary line may not be AP's finest work, the Frosted Gold Philosophique 77266OR/BC and openworked 15352OR are quite nice, and if I had some excess funds I'd be happy to add them to my collection.
