Am I the only one who does this??

Here is the thing -
I've been buying and selling Rolexes for over a decade now, mostly 5-digit and 6-digit models. For some reason, every time I have a few 5 digit pieces in my collection, I end up missing the modern look and build of the 6-digits and buy them again. But in the end, I always find myself scrolling through social media, drawn back to the 5-digits again. They just feel like the perfect design with proportions that Rolex has ever created.

The one thing I do appreciate about the 6-digits is that you can sometimes buy them new at retail(if you can) and get that "First-owner" experience. But purely from a design standpoint, I still can't say the 6-digits are better in any way.

I've owned 5-digit models like the Daytona(in this case steel 6 digits), GMT Master 2, Exp 1 and 2, and the Sub no-date, but the only 6-digit that actually feels as good as the 5-digits to me was the Ceramic Daytona.

I now have a few 5-digit models but not looking to sell these anymore because I know that I will come back to these models eventually.

Am I the only one who feels this way?

You're definitely not alone in that feeling, It's like the 5-digit models have a charm that keeps pulling you back in.

You're not alone. Still have my BLNR on jubilee but dumped my 6-digit sub and Exp II, keeping the 5-digit models. I will ride off into the sunset with these!

Kind of. I bought my first 5 digits after having owned only 6 digits … sold it cause it was flimsy. Bought it again cause it was perfect. LOL. Now I have a combination of 5s and 6s. Problem solved!

I’ve owned both and for me prefer the feel of 6 digits, but I do like the aesthetic of some 5 digits … both is the ideal solution

Do the older ones have the hollow links, hence the flimsy feeling. I personally like the upgrades over the years and really glad to see the maxi cases and wide lugs being phased out. Still awaiting this to the GMT line.

I like the 6 digits way better. The ceramic bezels drew me in.

I like 5 digit models and even 4 digit models.

But sometimes the peak of the pyramid is only available in a 6 digit model and I don't hesitate to go that route. It's so important not to get "fixed" into a box or you can end up missing a wonderful opportunity.

For me, that was the Platona.

Other examples may be out there - but I hope I explained my point.

Both itches are satisfied.

Much prefer the 5-digit models. For me, they represent the time where a Rolex watch maybe was a status symbol but it was also a tool watch, whereas with the 6-digits they went into being a status symbol/jewelry only - too big and flashy for my taste.

Of course YMMV
