1680 - 1975 Lume issue on dial
I have an old 1680 1975 with I guess lume issues. I'm considering maybe trying to find a nicer dail to on the watch but not sure which mk version it would be, would it be a Mk1 or 2 and has anyone seen any for sale. I've seen on ebay but the lume again doesn't look good.

I would recommend providing the partial serial number for others to assist, some serial guides are off.. |

Is this a result of the modding culture? I think your watch is what it is. Why start down the path of upgrading parts and Frankinizing the watch. If you’re not satisfied with overall condition, sell it and buy a better one.

I happen to think the patina looks great…

Everything looks in keeping with everything else….which is worn and bit scruffy….bezel edge, scratched insert, crown and dial markers and paint on edge end of minute markers missing and tarnished hands - tbh as I’d expect of well loved/worn piece….if you ‘zhuzh up’ one bit it will be out of kilter with the balance of the watch imho.

this is my daily watch that I wear all the time. I also have a great vintage GMT and 5512 that I love but this was one of my first vintage watches. I guess I felt bad for giving it so much abuse that I wanted to make it a little fresher and give it some love.

I’d leave it as it is. If you don’t like the patina on the lume plots then try exposing it to sunlight on a regular basis and it should lighten up a bit. Honestly, I wouldn’t touch it.

I think the watch case dial and bezel are consistent and a good match. If you find a great dial, I think it’s going to look off. Best to you!

Based on the 44xxxxx serial number, that is not an original 1970s case but, instead, it is a Rolex service replacement case as evidenced by the "44" serial number.
I agree with Dan. I would start fresh with another Submariner 1680 that would have more value than poring money into a service Submariner that has several issues.
