Two Tone Thoughts

I am feeling the urge to change my Rolex. I was thinking of getting a Two Tone Band and yellow gold fluted bezel. I know I am missing the crown, but these two parts I could install myself. Has anyone else transformed there SS Rolex?

It's your watch, you can do what you want....

Truly, if you want to customize your Rolex, there's no one who'll tell you not to, but realize, what you'll end up with is affectionately called a "Frankenwatch" by the Rolex community.

As you can surmise, that's a watch that came out of the factory one way, and was later customized beyond what Rolex would do in the way of dial changes, bracelet changes or refurbishment.

My opinion is if this is your watch for life, and you will not likely ever have any interest in selling it or even sending it to a Rolex RSC for routine servicing, go right ahead and make it the watch of your dreams. But swapping two tones for SS on your own will pretty much kill any resale value to a potential buyer that wants purity and Rolex will refuse to work on a watch that has been customized under their current rules and regulations.

I would not recommend doing this and besides, you may later regret it. If you want a two-tone, I would just buy one straight out or sell the one you have to help fund it.

By the time you buy a TT bracelet and a YG fluted bezel, you might as well just buy a pre-owned TT DateJust. A bracelet and bezel are expensive. Have you priced them?

Just Say No

Dude,

You don't want a frankenwatch. The point was made that by the time you buy a bezel and band you're in the cash anyway...may as well put it towards a TT Datejust. You can pick-up on 16013 for a very reasonable price these days on any of a variety of Rolex marketplaces (here, TZ Sales Corner, Watchnet, etc...). In the end though it's all up to you

I would say this Rolex DJ is for life. I really don't plan on buying another Rolex. The watch is comfortable and feels like its a part of me. It truly is a treasured friend when I am happy or sad. I love my watch. I talk about Pani, but my heart is forever with my Rolex. I don't want to sound weird, but our hearts trulybeat together.

Hi Mikey,

I don't believe in mincing words. DON'T DO IT!!

For starters, it will cost you a bomb by the time you've finished with it. A TT bracelet and solid 18 K gold bezel are not cheap (presuming they are genuine articles from Rolex!!)

Secondly, you would have bastardised your beautiful watch into something that it isn't.

Thirdly, you would have lost all ORIGINALITY of a Rolex as it was meant to be.

Your call, pal.

Cheers - JJ
