16233 DJ Bezel Swap
Hello all,
What's the best way you guys might go about this? I felt I should ask here. I have a 16233 that I bought with an aftermarket Diamond Bezel. I want to swap this bezel for a factory fluted bezel. I found a local watch dealer, who has been in business for over 20 years in this area, but I'm just trying to be careful. He has the fluted bezel in stock and says he can do the swap easily, of course. I asked him if he could do the bezel swap in front of me. He says he understood why I asked, is a super nice guy, but that his watchmaker only works a few days of the week and that it would definitely take 3-7 days, depending on the day I dropped it off. (I don't know my acting like this is out of line/rude, but I don't have much experience with these watches and I don't have a relationship with him). I sure wish I could make an appointment with his watchmaker and come in to have it done. I wouldn't hover over him of course because I know it's a common watch and he has much nicer ones in the shop. I would just like to see what's was going on, it would make me feel better. He told me that it would take longer than the time an appointment would allow for because of something about checking gaskets, etc...I feel a bit uncomfortable (not anything to do with the business), I will admit I am like this with a lot of my things (Cars, etc.) I can tend to be a bit paranoid and assumptive that someone is up to no good from the start (my being like this has been good for me at times, but sometimes, in hindsight, I have been a little bit "too much"). Where I bought the watch (national retail chain), doesn't do this type of work. The reason I am asking this is because I am worried about the chance of the movement or parts being swapped/changed without my knowledge because I am in experienced. I am not trying to be rude, accusatory, etc. It's just a normal thought for me. Does anyone else think like me? I thought I'd reach out and ask some guys/girls with experience on what I should do. When I chose my first Rolex, I was a bit inexperienced... I love it, but I believe the watch would look so much nicer with a factory fluted bezel. I feel a bit worried about leaving it anywhere for that long. I have read that I can maybe send it into the RSC and they could change everything back to factory, but I am not really trying to go through all of that because that because, from what I understand, they would have do do the dial as well (refinished) IF they even choose to. I just want a quick bezel swap. Thanks for any information/input you all can provide... |

You are right in swapping an aftermarket bezel.
That’s the only thing you are right about, all the rest you write is pretty much …….. , don’t know how to say that politely. No watchmaker in business for 20 years will steal parts from your DJ. Dime a dozen and nothing special about it. Pretty offending to him and I am surprised he is still willing to work for you. Wonder how you deal with it comes service time

The likelihood of a legitimate business swapping out your movement or any parts from it is almost 0%. What will you do when you need to service the watch? You won't be able to stand over the watchmaker for a day while he works on it. You can always take it to a Rolex Service Center. Or will you have trust issues with them as well?"

LOL
I knew you guys might be a bit harsh on me. I appreciate your replies. I think I got what I need now…. The guy is super cool/nice. So nice that I’m actually thinking of buying/trading with him instead of waiting for a call. We’ll see how long I can wait, he does have some nice pieces/options. Thanks guys |
