So confuse about the Seiko's movement

Dear guys,

Recently the Seiko Prospex Alpinist SPB159 & SPB119 caught my eyes, but got tons of negative information about the movement of 6R35 through the web(by end users), I started to worry about it accuracy for daily basis. Any comments about it, thanks!

The only issue I see with these movements, and probably the 4R's too, is they are a little hit and miss. My Sumo is quite accurate, +4 per day, but your mileage may vary. Overall, I believe it to be a robust movement, plus it has a great power reserve!

Thanks Aussie! Yes, buy a cheap mechanical watch always depends on luck. So there's no doubt you're a lucky guy.

I have two Sumos and one is +2s/day and the other +4s/day. They are both quite consistent too. If you get one that is too fast or too slow for your liking you can have it regulated, but that would still be annoying.

Does it really matter? How many days are you likely to wear it in a row? Enough for it to be out by more than a minute or so?

That’s exactly where I land on this topic in general, even where much more expensive watches are concerned YMMV

Within +/-10~15 sec per day is a good mechanical watch for this price level, so your Sumos are excellent.

Money can buy almost anything.

There's no reason to shy away from this. It's a solid movement and can be replaced if need be. If it's out of whack and needs a simple regulation, it should resolve it. These are a lot of quality for the price, they aren't junk.

My watch is doing +2-+4 spd on my wrist. From what I’ve read on the webs this is just a pure fluke and winning the lottery with this movement. For me I purchased this watch fully expecting that I’d be opening it up and regulating it myself. I simply haven’t had to.

The other thing with this watch is it’s wild. Like positional variation for my other watches is like 5-6 seconds, for this movement it’s like 20-30 seconds different between like dial up vs crown down. =) Has a charm to it… No other watch in my collection behaves like this. In a way I love it…

If accuracy is your main concern , maybe you should consider a GS 9F movement, +- 10 seconds a YEAR. The finishing of any GS 9F watches beat Seiko by a long mile, service life is 50 years ( per GS ) , and you can buy a nice used one for $1,500 .
