Another "mystery"

Sorry for posting so much, but I am at work and it is a quiet period just now.

It just came to my mind that the sides of the Sea-Dweller bracelet are high polished, but the sides of the Submariner (whole line from SS to G/G) is matte finished.

It's a mystery to me why Rolex had chosen to finish the two watchbands like this

Because the Sea-Dweller is thought to be the ultimate "tool watch" that is (or maybe is NOT??) designed to an extremely "active" style of life, for example proffessional diving companies. On the other hand, the Submariner (in the brochure that is still given with the watch, I believe?) is decribed as "first and foremost a diver's watch, yes is also suitable for business and social wear". Pardon me, if I haven't quoted the exact brochure wording correctly (I am at work as stated above), but to make a long story short:

Wouldn't you have thought it would have been more "logical" (or appropriate?) to have had the bracelets designed the opposite way (matte design on the SD and high polish on the Sub)???

I know it's a "closed question". What can you answer? But I am just curious to know if you aggree and if not what your opinions are.

Hmm, interesting point. Maybe the extra US$200 gets you polished sides. They probably did it just to distinguish one from the other.

Yeah, me too! I aggree

Still a mystery, though

But as "Gedanken" states, maybe it as simple as this: Rolex wants to add an extra touch of exclusiveness to justify the premium pricetag.

Or MAYBE it is just a fault that some Rolex watch maker's apprentice made some Monday morning:

Watchmaker: "NO! You DIDN'T just high polish 15,000 Sub bracelets, did you?!"
Apprentice: "But I thought you said "always make your work shine!"
Watchmaker ( : "Well, no harm done. We'll just use them for the SD"

My TT Blue Sub (F Series) which I bought brand new from an AD has polished sides on the bracelet.

However, I bought a brand new bracelet (93150) for my 1680 Sub and it had matt sides.

I also had my 1665 DRSD serviced by Rolex, and I got it back with matt sides.

Go figure.
