Speedy : Sapphire sandwich vs white dial vs Ed White

Getting that itch seriously to add a Speedy Pro again. I've previously had the hesalite moonwatch, but often got bored of it, so this time I think I'll get one with a bit more visual oomph, so to speak.

Which of these 3 would you guys get? I do have 1 other chrono and it happens to be a black Daytona, so that alone might mean I should get the white dial, but if I get the sapphire or Ed White and really enjoy it, I might end up moving the Daytona along as I'm already kind of cooling on it.

The Ed White 321 is in a completely different league than the other two. That’s NOT to disparage them whatsoever.

Once you handle one in real life, you will see and understand why it’s nothing like a regular Speedmaster. Pictures alone do not do it justice IMHO.

White dial. Ed White too similar to the one you already grew tired of, plus you already have a black chrono. The white is a stunner ... trust me

321 would pair really well with the Daytona. Plus it seems like a no-brainer since you’ve already tried the Speedy Pro before.

And then you could tell me which you prefer, as I am having a hard time deciding between the black 126500LN and 321.

As for 3861, personally, I prefer the depth of the black to the relative flatness of the white. I’d rather two watches I love compared to seeking out a black dial and white dial pair.

That is literally the first time I have ever read someone saying the black 3861 has depth and the white looks flat? The white is almost universally liked because the lacquered dial shows off the depth of the subdials as compared to the matte finish of the black dial. Additionally, the white uses applied marker, which add to the depth and layers of the dial compared to the painted lume markers of the black. Just surprised to read your comments since my experience has been the exact opposite.

As for which watch, the OP said he had a black hesalite dial and grew bored of it, so I'm not sure why the black 3861 or even the Ed White would substantially change that dynamic.

Just my opinion. It felt flat to me in real life when on my wrist and looking at it from arm’s length. It’s what I feel. I don’t feel that with the black. Sorry to disappoint.

I can see why you’d say that and at it’s price point, the 321 isn’t exactly everyone’s cup of tea.

Obviously I’m hugely biased, but you really have to handle a 321 in person to see how different it is from the standard 3861 Speedy. The case, bracelet, dial, markers and how they contrast to the hands (especially the lume in low light) and the overall finishing is just done on a whole different level IMHO

The 321 isn’t an in your face sort of wearing experience maybe like the Daytona. It’s more of a connoisseurs watch IMO. It’s subtle and sophisticated. It really is quite a different wearing experience to the 3861

Hey Brian. I wasn't trying to argue that the 321 isn't a fantastic watch. And I would love to see one in person eventually. It's a true enthusiast's watch if there ever was one.

I was just trying to select which of the three would be best for the OP given his situation. He stated he owned a hesalite black dial moonwatch and got bored with it over time. Of the three watches he mentioned, only one greatly stands out from that, and it's the white dial.

Additionally, he stated that he currently owns a black Daytona chrono. So again, in my mind, why add another black chrono, and why get a very similar watch to the one he already got rid of? I think a white dial Speedy would really stand out from the Daytona and give a little more variety and pizazz to his collection, which he seems to be looking for.

Totally understand your perspective and agree the white makes a lot of sense in the OPs case

Ed White is my favorite but the new white dial is growing in me.
