What is the one watch you want but feel that you will never be able to acquire?

Day-Date for me. I have been priced out of the market.

Well being I've been chasing a 116505 or 515 for about 8 months and I'm starting to lose hope. Not to mention I'm not even dial specific. I'll take any of them.

Have a few working leads from a few A D's and have done everything I can and then some over these last 8 months. Like a lot. Plus the personal relationship I have and spend history and on and on and on.

Gonna give it another 4-6 months and if still no dice I may have to go Grey. OMG I soooooo dont want to on this one. But I'm not gonna sit on the sidelines forever.

Buy grey now before prices cont. to rise. If you happen to get it from an AD 4-6 months from now, sell the one you bought from grey.

I know brother. Its crossed my mind soooooooooooo many times. Its just these 505's are bring upper 70's versus the 40k Msrp.

I'd probably want to trade something then I'm out the trade, granted quite a few bought at Msrp, so theres money to be made but it will still be gone.

I guess if I got the call I could sell one and use the proceeds to get that particular trade back but I'd still be going backwards financially.

So between the 2 options of going Grey with no trade and spending a ton, at least for me, or doing a trade both outcomes are holding me back. But yes you're right going Grey NOW isnt too bad of an idea and one I've mulled a bunch

The other dynamic is this will be my last piece I want. Yes thousands of us have said that but if I post a pic of my collection you'll see I'm covered so I want this one from my A D. But yes there are pitfalls of waiting

What is the one watch you want but feel that you will never be able to acquire?

When I first got into the hobby a few years ago PM stuff like daydate 36 and daydate 40s of current generation were going for about $25-$35k and those felt attainable with some savings and depreciation but no longer.

Even older vintage DDs went from around $8k to $18k pretty quickly. So I’m sort of out of the PM game.

The stuff I like that I’ll never actually get is the OP39 pearlmaster olive dial. They hover around $60-$70k these days.

There’s also a gold omega that I got priced out of and a platinum omega I got priced out of. These days everything is way up not just Rolex.

I had like 5 things in my watch list on C24 that all doubled in price in 3 years when I was expecting them to drop 10-20%.

Oh well!

There’s plenty of fish in the sea!

I feel the better question is which reference do you want that’s gone up so much in price it’s not worth buying anymore. Because with enough money you can buy anything including a Tiffany blue Patek nautilous.

I take the opposite approach of grey advice and just wait til prices come back down and new references are introduced. I only buy the dip not the bubble. There’s always something else just as interesting to spend money on

Never say never, nothing is out of reach, you only need to desire it and believe you already have it and it'll come to you.

I am whole for now. My “grails” have all been attainable and unless something crazy cool gets introduced next month there’s no must haves pending.

Should have bought a DD when they were offering discounts. But I’m really happy with my Explorer.

For me the SS BLRO (Pepsi) on any bracelet is the one Rolex I feel like I will never be able to get. This is the one watch I wanted before I knew about any of the hype and had before i had earned the funds to buy it.

Now that I have the money I don't want to pay 3X retail on the grey market and the other models don't really do it for me the same way the pepsi does. Debating on not even buying a watch anytime soon if I will never be able to acquire it.
