Unplanned entry

Walk in Paris yesterday.
Passing an exclusively Rolex boutique with the windows full of “display only” models, there is a pink gold Yachtmaster 40 that appeals to my wife as much as I do.
Me: "Do you want to try it".
My wife : "why not"
We enter, we are offered to sit down and wait for a salesman to free himself.
We are asked if we want something to drink while waiting...
The minutes pass... 5, 10, 15... during which 4 customers leave with watches...
A saleswoman arrives, it's the manager. She sold a blue Yachtmaster to my wife in 2020, that she wears on her wrist, and remembers us...good memory.
Me: "We would like to try the pink gold Yachtmaster in the window"
Manager: "no worries, but it's not for sale, it's just to try"
My wife: "It doesn't matter, it's just to form an opinion"
My wife tries it, she likes it very much. I want to try it myself... oops... bracelet too small, I can't put it on. Snif!
Manager: "Do you like it? Is it for a special occasion? Do you have a specific date for the purchase?
My wife: "yes, really pretty, much dressier than my blue, and no, no date or occasion, it's just for fun"
Manager: "I have one that a client didn't come to pick up, I won't be able to reserve it for her any longer, if you're interested, I'll call her again, and if she can't come, it's for you. Does that suit you?"
Us: "???!!!! heuuuu... yes"
10 minutes later, the director returns: "The watchmaker arrives to take your wrist measurement. Do you want an engraving on the case back? This is a service we offer to our customers, if you have a drawing or a photo, we can reproduce it"
Me "???!!!!" (that's twice...)
My wife: "So the watch is available? How long does the engraving take? When will I be able to get it back?"
Manager: "yes, yes, it's for you. The engraving takes 10 minutes, you can leave with it today"
Us: "ouhaaaa" (we have a lot of vocabulary...)
I pass on the reason for the engraving, it's personal, but for information, it will be made from a photo taken by the director with her phone. We are shown what the final result will look like on a metal plate before the case back is engraved. It's unbelievably real.
Little anxiety at the time of payment for this unforeseen purchase, it is necessary to increase the ceiling of the card... but it passes.
While waiting for the bracelet change and the engraving, we are offered a glass of champagne.

1 hour after entering "to see", we leave with 2 bags: 1 for the watch box and 1 with a gift, a Rolex scarf. We also have a pocket to put the watch, which I keep in my pocket for safety.

The story is a bit long, but I think it can give some hope to those who want a Rolex, with a bit of luck it is still possible to have one without waiting months or years.
This is the 4th time in 3 years that this has happened to us, including 2 times in this shop...

Congratulations on the new watch. I'm glad you and your wife had a pleasant experience. Certainly makes a change from the typical AD treatment of late.

I had the display model on the other day of that same watch and it is spectacular. Congrats on a great and unexpected purchase. Now you know don't ever ask the Wife to try on expensive watches ever again!

Rolex Boutiques are always better to deal with that watch AD stores. At least, exclusive rolex boutiques don’t play games.
Congrats OP. Sunning watch.
