New MilGauss

A buddy of mine just bought this.
Seems a little questionable to me.
He traded some collectors knives for it.

I was just about to post this watch myself and ask this. A person I know from my Facebook Texas horology group sent me a message asking if this was real or fake. We spotted the 18K mark.

The person selling it swears it's real however he is not the original purchaser.
question

I'm no expert in spotting fake Rolexes. However the 18K was a dead giveaway and the guy that I was discussing with spotted it right before I did

So, are there any immediate tells on the dial?

I thought the caseback engraving was too light
Also the clasp didnt. Look right.
Bracelet polish looked off

What did i miss?

The can swear all he likes but that will always be a fake.

This is a pix of my GV caseback FYI.

Note the absence of the gold hallmarks and the quality of the engraving etc.....

Watch is fake
How do we end up with two different people buying being offered the same watch??
Nothing to do with dial, which looks pretty correct.
Everything else is wrong!

All I know, watch was on a knife forum page on Facebook, he sent me a message saying he bought/traded for the watch. Then sent pictures.

He lucked out that this was a "through the mail" trade. He never mailed out the knives and never received the watch.

I thought he already had the watch.

Something strange here - two people, different states being offered the same watch?

I'd say so.
I had another guy message me from this forum and said he saw the watch on the Facebook page.

So spit it out. What are you thinking? I dont think the seller was trying to sell it twice

When I posted this, the seller had told the person who contacted me that the watch was sold. That was in response to a request for additional photos of the rehaut, serial number and movement.

Feel free to join the texas horology group and ask about it.

It actually makes sense as this is the place to go to ID a Rolex and confirm what i was thinking.

The name of the seller was Andrew Duke. If he wasn't the original purchaser he may not even know it's a fake. Or, he's just a scammer. Who knows.

The sellers response
"He said he factored the possibility of it being a fake and made a trade deal with someone for about a $1500 value. Lol!"

"I told him to open the case and he said he doesn't have the proper tools"

Lol. How hard is it to take it to the local jeweler and pay him $25 or so to open the case up

Ah, the incredibly rare 18k Milgauss.

Those bracelet screws are also amazing.

For educational purposes, the only tell-tale was the 18K engraving?

All the printing on the dial looks to large and to low down from the Crown. The what I think may be the 750 marking on the rear of the lug is wrong, the engraving on the back and bracelet looks light, the screws too deep and on mine at least I have no 72200 marking.

New MilGauss

The poor engraving on the back, the case notched by the crown, the 18k hallmark is obvious. The clasp is bad.

Lot wrong here. And that's just on the back side.

Glad your buddy didn't get burned. My original reaction was I hope his collector knives were some used butter knives.
