Atlanta AD Visit

I was in an Atlanta mall today to get some help on a computer migration and dropped into the AD to ask a question about my DayDate. It's a really old watch, but it keeps excellent time. I can't remember when it was last serviced and hunting season starts soon with the strong possibility of prolonged rain. I was worried about the seals. The AD person said to monitor the watch for fogging. If it fogged, bring it in ASAP for service. That could mean a week or more. Does that sound correct?

While I was there, I asked about the new SeaDweller. As expected, none available and a long waiting list. I tried on an Explorer 2 and it felt too big and awkward on my 7" wrist. I tried on a Submariner and it felt really great. Almost bought it. The thing that saved me was they only had the display model. I need to either stay out of watch stores or switch to buying Timex watches.

Yes...I've found visits to the AD extremely hazardous to my checking account.

Putting a sub on the wrist usually only ends one way... something tells me you'll be contacting an AD soon...

Fogging on the inside of the crystal is not a good sign, as it is indicative of moisture somehow entering the case. The sooner the watch is serviced once fogging is noticed the better.

If you are not in a position to immediately send for service, have some rice on-hand to store the watch in; however, I would certainly not continue to wear it out in the rain, etc.

Why not just have the AD do a pressure test? I wouldn't wait until it fogged up. Just do the test and have it serviced if it didn't pass.

Fog

The watch isn't fogged now. I was worried about that happening on one of my trips. Scotland is usually the wettest trip and we are gone for about 8 days.

If we are in heavy rain, I'll just leave the watch in the hotel. The idea of a bag of white rice is a great idea for watches or phones. I'll pack a bag.

P.S. The Submariner felt better than my BLNR and they are about the same size.

Pressure test is usually possible at most ADs

I had an old GMT checked at mine. Didn't take long.

My usual sales person wasn't there when I visited. I'll check with her later about the pressure test.

Every now and then I give myself a priority watch check. Does it need service? Maybe. Do I need a new watch? No. Do I want one? Yes. Can I afford it? Not really. Overall outcomes, I buy the new watch and use the excuse for service as my reasoning for needing the new one. Submariner is the perfect choice!!!
