Fake 14060M ?

Hello,

Would you be able to tell if this watch is real?

I can't post a link here but the watch is listed on Ebay for $6,999.00:

2006 "Z" Rolex Submariner No Date 14060M Steel Mans Watch - Box no papers

I communicated with the seller and there's a few potential red flags but I want to make sure.

I would appreciate your expertise.

Thank you.

I doesn't look bad, but the coronet and font on the dial bother me a little for some reason. It might be because of the poor resolution of the pictures.

The picture is terrible. Impossible to see detail needed to make an educated guess. Do not buy online without certainty. Good luck.

I wouldn’t do the deal.

Low transaction seller - not a watch specialist - no returns allowed - poor pictures, so poor I couldn’t tell you anything about the watch - not sure of the clasp on the bracelet.

There are so many more better dealers here - is try trusted TRF sellers instead.

You may be remembering the 11610 Sub Date - it lost its lug holes around 2001-ish.

In any event, the 14060M always had drilled lug holes. The 114060 ceramic was introduced in Basel in 2012 and that was the end of lug holes in the Submariner line.

So it was when it went to Ceramic when it lost the lug holes? Makes me wonder how many fakes I’ve seen that were 14060M that has solid case hmmm

Hi Adam,
First of all, thank you for your sound advice on this case. I was very interested in that watch because it was a Z7 serial number, the very last breed of 2-liners. Like you, I was initially super suspicious, which is why I created this thread to begin with, but the seller eventually sent me some high res pictures of the watch, and long story short I ended up pulling the trigger. As soon as I received the watch, I showed it to Tom Doan of D's Time Service (my local Rolex expert) and he confirmed that it was an authentic 14060m.

I don't think there is a moral to that story, but before paying for the watch I contacted Amex and they told me I was covered if the watch turned out to be fake. As a buyer, I feel pretty safe. As a seller, that's a completely different story. I have purchased quite a few watches but have only sold one in my life and it was a face to face transaction. I'm actually going to have to sell another one of my watches now that I purchased the 14060m and quite frankly that makes me nervous just to think about it...

For what it's worth, the 14060M is not a watch that is copied much, if at all. All the fakes have a date complication. If there are any fakes of the 14060M they will be tragically bad and very easy to spot. I for one have never even seen a fake 14060M never mind one that looked anything like a real Rolex.

That's very interesting. You would think it's easier to replicate a watch without a date complication.

D's Time Service is awesome! He worked miracles on an old, beat up Explorer II I have.

Glad you got a great watch!
