Breitling

I'm thinking about buying a breitling.... for 2 reasons..

1) they look pretty big with a nice design
2) they look like a YOUNG type of watch & im a young guy.

But i dont know much about breitling watches... nor do i want the watch TOO big... so can any of you here tell me what the most popular breitling models are?

Hi Vic,

Breitling make real solid and very durable watches. Some of the models are not very appealing, but some, on the other hand, are quite nice.

However, their resale value sucks....BIG time. So if you do decide to get one, then also decide to keep it. If you plan on selling it down the line, be prepared to take at least a 50% hit on the resale.

Rolex is hard to beat as a financial security blanket, but "pleasure costs' IMO none of the mainstream players fair much better though

Vic, I own two Rolex's and recently got a Brietling for a change of pace. I really like them. They have a good reputation and are a quality watch. They also have some unique designs. I saw this one and fell in love with it. It is a big watch thought (44mm I think), so you need to have a wrist that can handle it, but it sure looks nice when it's on. Try one on at your AD and see what you think. I never regretted buying mine.

Here's my Navitimer Olympus.



This one is 43.5 mm. I like it because of the semi-perpetual calendar (it only has to be reset once every 4 years), the chrono function, and the slide rule (it's the former engineer in me).

I also happen to like complicated watches, and this is the most complicated one I own.

They retail for around $4,500 but you can get them for less if you shop around.

bingo... this is the one that i was looking for... i've been seeing it everywhere... is it aso 44mm? I intend on keeping the watch forever and wearing it a lot more than the rollies since they seem to be a bit less delicate. i think 4500 is too much though... i'd max pay 2800 for that. im cheap

If money is an issue a preowned model would be a good choice I love the Navitimer, I personally own a colt chronograph and chronomat vitesse, Both are nice

The model you showed is also very nice, But check out the dials on the Vitesse models

Before I got into watches, Breitlings particulary the Chrono Avenger was my favourite. Here's a pic of mine which I got new from LaSwiss @ Fairview mall.





There are a lot of Breitlings around that you can get a decent price.

I am a 21 year old college student, I just got the Breitling Steelfish...white face....mmhmm.. anyway, I like it because its not popular, you dont see them everyday on every shuffleboard court in FL (SS 18k blue face Submariner) :)

They are a good young watch... but you are not giving up on quality, these puppies are COSC Certified, and my steelfish(6600ft) even has a greater depth than the Rolex Seadweller(4000ft)

and the best part..... half the price of a rolex, so for us young guys who are just gettin started...its a great watch. and the whole investment thing, you are not going to make your first million by buying a rolex and holding it for years, if you are going to invest, stick with CDs and Mutual funds, not watches..lol

I have a Breitling Old Navitimer since 1988 and hasn't been serviced since, but still gives me almost perfect, if not, decent time. A Colt SuperOcean has also been a very reliable time piece for more than 12 years--not been serviced, either, but accurate. Overall, Breitlings, IMHO, are excellent watches. Highly recommended.

Can anyone here tellme about their repair costs? Are they expensive like Rolex's? because i am looking to buy this watch as a sort of casual kind of watch that i dont mind if it drops on the floor and i can feel really care free about this. and yeah i know that there are a lot of breitlings floating around that i could probably geta really good price. I've always thought of breitling as a casual type of watch and that's the reason i wanna buy it... so i can have a nice watch on my wrist when im working out or playing in the mud. :)

Its not as bad, Ive had my Colt Chrono for nearly 10 years with only needing to replace the battery once. The Chronomat never needed service in the 5 years Ive had it.

If they need repairs, Im sure it wont be near the cost of what Rolex charges (usually 500?)

Get yourself a pre owned SS Navitimer/Croc combo with all the serial numbers/booklet/warranty card matching and you will not lose much money (couple of hundred MAX) when you sell on.



Be ultra careful with any Breitling without provenance as there are higher quality fakes around.

Breitling watches are very nice, I wish Rolex made a rubber divers band like Breitling does. Those bands are durable and very comfortable to wear in the summer, I had one on my superocean it was black. I flipped my Superocean so I could to buy my SD. If you decide to buy a Breitling please post some pictures.

I've been really busy with finals right now so i havent been able to really check out any watches recently. I'm still contemplating on whether i want to blow even more money on a watch, but i guess it wouldnt be too bad if i do decide to get it... since i can wear it everyday.

I was wondering about future resale values...

I was recently choosing between a used Rolex Datejust and a new Breitling Automatic Colt - I went with the Breitling. (how do I put images up BTW?)

The Rolex was £1400 and the Colt £1160, which I got down to £1000.

Now, the Rolex was 4 years old and was over £2000 new, and remains unsold at £1400 (it is for sale through an AD).

At the same time the AD had a used Breitling Colt Quartz at about the same age for sale at £750, it was about £1000 new.

In addition to this celebrities seem to me to be increasingly wearing Breitlings, which must increase the status of these watches.

Just some observations - I was wondering what everybody else thinks...

my daily beater Breitling Hercules 45mm and 15.4mm thick. Something like 250g or so. It's a monster.

Was just in for full service cost was $400. Inculding repolish, all 8 hads replated, dissamble and complete lube, ect. Watch came back better than new. The plating on the hands has never looked so good.

I will invest in a Blue Dial Old Navitimer one day a Cracker of a Chronograph.

I have a SS Sub and a TT Blue Sub. IMO, The Blue is the best looking watch out there. I just bought a Breitling Emergency Mission as an "alternate" watch. It is a great back-up, especially if my plane goes down!!
