Better than a Rolex?

Hello fellow members,

I bought this watch about a month ago,
And let me tell you I never thought that I'd like a Tudor as much as a Rolex or maybe more .
So I bought a Tudor pelagos 25500TN pre owned.
After I bought it I came to the fact that mine was the 2 liner version eta movement which had a run from 2012 till 2014 and changed in 2015 to the in house movement. After I searched a bit more I learned that this was the first titanium watch from Rolex/Tudor and with the ETA movement it has a thickness of 13.5mm which is pretty amazing in my opinion for a 500m diver and much better than the 14.3mm in house version.
Btw this watch was sitting or maybe stashed away after it got discontinued for 5 years at the AD.
So I was pretty pumped when I discovered that i was covered by the 18 month extended warranty from Tudor since the watch was purchased by original owner in 1/2019 from my city's local AD.
I have a 2019 hulk and a 2017 yacht master 40 blue.
And let me tell you that if this Tudor had Rolex crown in it and some polishing like a SD43 it would be the watch of the century.
I truly believe that this is the best dive watch from the house of Rolex/Tudor in the last 15 years.
And btw the ETA movement in this watch is averaging about 1 second fast per day for the last month.
(Also there are about 346 sd43 on chrono24 vs 20 of these pelagos ETA 25500TN in comparison )
Please share your opinion about this piece and what do you think about it?
Thank you.

Certainly one of the best values in the watch business. Qualitatively better than a Rolex? Dollar for dollar? yes. In absolute terms, no.

Nice watch, but better than a rolex? I think you're in the honeymoon phase. Give it another 2 months and you may be singing a different tune.

Great watch, one of my favorites in the collection.

Now...better than a Rolex? That's purely subjective, not to mention needs some quantification. Better in what aspect? Value, resale, durability, reliability, etc. In the end, though, it doesn't really matter. What does matter, however, is that you're happy with it and its performance.

For what it's worth, I would take your watch over a standard black sub any day of the week.

I've actually owned 2 black Bay's before a gmt and a steel bezel diver, I sold both due to one problem, thickness that's it.

I'm not keen on the hands or hour markers and the watch looks quite thick compared to my 5 digit Subs.

Are these actually thicker than old Subs, or is it just how it looks in the photos?

I totally agree with you on that last part,
With the flat case back and 13.5mm thickness and 500m water resistance, this is by far better than any sub.

This iteration with the ETA movement measure at 13.5mm bare in mind it's a 500m certified diver.
And also as it's made from titanium it feels as light as a 5 digit sub.

Better is so subjective that it very well could be with your priorities and value system. Rolex is the best marketing a watch but certainly isn’t superior to many of the other brands in every department of the actual watch. Each watch has its own superlative quality. Rolex is robustness and image marketing to the masses.

First of all, if you like the watch, enjoy it in good health. It deserves a happy owner.

Ok, now you asked for my opinion. First, i think a Tudor is way to bulky. Like the hour hand. A Rolex has a point arrow on each hand. On the hour hand of a Tudor it is flatten which makes it (for me) a too bulky hand.

Second, the bezel of this Tudor is also too big for the case. But, i really like the full lume on this bezel. Also the clasp looks bulky imo.

But third, and i really can't help this...the Tudor logo. For me it is a constant smiling clown. Really don't understand the designer why he made this up.

Please, this is all my personal opinion. If you are happy with it, please enjoy it. But you asked for my opinion, so here it is :)

It’s most probably a very good watch, but the one thing against it is it’s not a Rolex.

As I see it starting from around 2010 and going through 2020 Tudor Is slowly taking the place of rolex, Rolex moving up market and costing as much as an ap from 10 years ago, AP's prices have gone crazy in the last 10 years, and let's not talk about Patek performance in the last 10 years.
What I'm trying to convey is that Rolex (the tool watch company) offered the submariner date brand new in 1990 for about $2250 adjusted for inflation $4460.
But today Rolex(the luxury watch company) is asking for $9000 and impossible to get you'd have to hit the grey market and pay $11k-$13k.

On the other hand this Tudor pelagos cost about $4500 new from AD, so basically Tudor is charging what Rolex charged 30 years ago exactly.

Since Rolex own Tudor, they can control the quality of both brands and in turn, they will never make Tudor watches higher quality than Rolex.

More oversized of everything. The hands, bezel, font and clasp, i think they are all oversized.

Well, I had the current version in blue. First I loved it, the rugged tool watch design was awesome in my opinion, titanium felt great and the self-adjusting clasp was so comfortable in summer...

Then I noticed how easily it scrathes and that ruined the Pelagos for me. If Tudor had used grade 5 titanium and/or some scratch resistant surface treatment or even just used good old SS, I would probably still feel the love. Instead I decided to get rid of it and have DSSD instead.

You should try it, but make sure it's the 2 line version.
You'll be surprised.

Alotta bang for the buck and a great piece overall.
I prefer Rolex divers (Sub, SD. DSSD) but the Pelagos can hold it's own. Enjoy it!

Great watch and depending on the criteria used you could make an argument that it better than Rolex or other dive watches. I say apples and oranges and both can be appreciated for what they are.

Did you try the eraser method,
They say that what scratches is the oxidation layer that form on titanium.
I can attach a link from another forum, is it allowed?

It’s a beautiful watch with great value for the money but I wouldn’t stretch it and say better than a Rolex!
