Introducing my new SD!

My GMT 16750 has been gone for almost a week and I've been wearing my SD for a couple of days now. I love it!

I loved my GMT, but I made the mistake of taking a trip to the AD to look at some of the newer models. I immediately fell in love with the more pronounced bezel, sapphire crystal, SELs, and the newer flip-lock clasp.

So, I decided to make a change and trade the GMT for a 2001 SD!!!

Here she is!

I love mine! I have an LV and thought that I wouldn't want an SD, but I am very pleased with it, especially on the RHD Carbonio strap and DF deployant. I posted a photo I think.

Looks good on you, Jeff. Must be that Florida sun relecting off the dial.

I can understand you going for the SD and the current model. The GMT 16750 is a very nice watch and no doubt you can get a vintage GMT again if you wish. Probably the most solidly constructed Rolex in production, it does have a great deal of presence. I expect it will be a little heavier on the wrist than the GMT, but you will get used to that pretty quickly. I'll be interested to hear how it feels.
Congrats!

First, congrats on the forum! Thanks for taking it over and allowing us to continue sharing our passion!

The SD is suprisingly comfortable - every bit as comfortable as the 16750. It's certainly heavier than the 16750, but I'm used to carrying around heavy things .

lol. To be honest this is one reason I wanted to make a change. No matter which bezel I had on the GMT, I wish I was wearing the other. It drove me crazy. Now I don't have to think about it anymore. When's your Panerai GMT arriving?

Thanks for your kind words. The SD is very well balanced, and the SEL bracelet adds to the solid feel. I have the 1665 which is an earlier model of the SD and appreciate what you say about the SD being comfortable despite it being slightly heavier than the GMT. However, the new supercase GMTII in TT may well be heavier than the SD.

Good looking watch, welcome to the club. I love my SD and I'm selling off my other non-important watches.

I think you're right. I tried the new GMT on a few months ago and couldn't believe how heavy and large it was. I suppose I would consider the new GMT my "dream watch".

Way to go Jeff! I picked up a D Series Sea-Dweller myself yesterday!

But please, don't tell the guys on the IWC forum of TZ. I swapped my IWC Steel Automatic Ingenieur for it!

I loved the Ingenieur but the the Sea-Dweller had more pull for me!

So, now I've got the 1680 White Submariner, the 114270 Explorer and the big Sea-Dweller! I think I'm well covered now!

I hope you're enjoying your Sea-Dweller as much as I'm enjoying mine!

Kind regards

Chris in Melbourne

Here's my SeaDweller with a GMT ring...

Here's my SeaDweller (Z series) with a GMT bezel insert laid over the top so show how much smaller the SeaDweller's face in comparison with Sub's/GMT's.

I am working on a SeaDweller comparison/review and will post shortly.

Congrats on the SD Chris, they are a very popular model, maybe you got the itch that had to be scratched after seeing James' SD at the GTG recently. The IWC was definitely industrial strength as the case looked and felt so solid.

But I can understand the magnetism of the SD, once it calls you have to beckon.

Thanks Stephen! You are oh so right about the magnetism of the Sea-Dweller!

When I heard it call it sounded to me like 'Fix Bayonets & Charge!'

I just had to instantly obey!

Kind regards...
