White Gold Pepsi Worth It?

hey all,

I’ve got a pretty sprawling collection right now that I’ve been trying to migrate toward a fewer, heavy-hitting pieces. lately I’ve been taken with the idea of getting a 126719BLRO. thoughts on that model? anything at a similar price point I’m missing without paying stupid money over MSRP? I’ve thought about a neo-vintage yellow gold GMT, but already have a gold Cartier Santos that I think fills a similar spot. I’d be selling the following to help fund it:

- Polar Explorer II 216570
- Cartier Pasha moonphase in rose gold (don’t have the model number handy but it’s the one-shot from W&W last year)
- Blancpain Fifty Fathoms black/titanium
- Piaget Polo S

Pieces I’d not be trading and rationale:

- Explorer two-tone 214273 (I feel like two-tone is a great part of Rolex’s DNA and love how it + 36mm makes this watch easy to dress up or down)
- Hublot Big Bang Unico 42mm in titanium/ceramic (expect a lot of hate on this one, but it’s unique in my collection and I got a pretty good deal on it that’d be tough to replicate if I change my mind)
- GMT Master II 116710LN (discontinued + steel / black is great daily wear and keeps me from wanting a sub)
- Panerai 8-Day GMT PAM233 dot dial (I feel like this is *the* Panerai, and am not interested in replacing it with a modern alternative so selling it would be the end of the brand in my collection)

am looking forward to opinions about the watch, alternatives I ought to look at, and criticisms about my trade strategy. thanks!

I say go for it and get the Meteorite dial. Prices have come down quite a bit since the peak.

I really think the WG Pepsi blue dial and even the meteorite is a good buy at grey right now. Pre covid in 2019 it used to trade at above retail and what slowed it down was the SS Pepsi in oyster, nothing else.

The WG, RG and even the YG eventually will trade around the same price but the WG has advantages of it being 1) a Pepsi bezel, which traditionally has been more popular than any other bezel and 2) the only GMT and one of the few sports models with a color dial as the MG, hulk, Smurf, JMs, chocolates are all discontinued.

Some may think the blue dial is too similar to black but it really stands out in lighting. I believe it's the most versatile out of the non Daytona PMs and it's really at a floor right now.

I would do it in a heartbeat. The blue dial is a beauty and they are trading under retail now.

If you like it then buy it. It’s outta my league but if I had the choice between SS or White Gold and could afford it, or trade up, I’d go for the White Gold 100%.

Only the stupid pay over MSRP
The only issue with the current 719 is the color clash between the blue dial and blue portion of the bezel. A 116719BLRO will have you WAY under the radar.

You mean the black dial? There are some *great* deals on those, and I’ve read that Rolex will swap the dial at service if you ask for a blue one. My only concern is the difference in movement – 50 vs. 70 hr. power reserve is noticeable.

I want to love the rose gold so much, but the color is too rose not enough gold for me. New W&W yellow gold would be amazing, but I’m not seeing one of those near retail for a looong time.

White Gold Pepsi Worth It?

I owned a 116719 (black dial). It was a pretty watch and all, but I ended up selling it.

I didn’t care for the heft, and yes I know some people like the heavier weight (I think mine was about 220 grams) but it simply wasn’t as comfortable as a daily wearer as my other watches.

I also realized through that experience that PM sports watches as a concept are not for me, unless we are talking about a rose gold nautilus or something on that level. I think the only Rolex exception would be a WG meteorite Daytona…but I digress.

Now I’ve got a couple SS sport pieces and a YG DayDate, which suit my purposes and tastes much better.

Good luck whatever you decide.

Yes it’s worth it.
I have the meteorite and it’s amazing.
Love the weight over steel and the dial is stunning.
Blue dial is nice too. More under the radar.

Different for everyone, but for me... I have owned 2 WG Rolex and they trump the 8 other SS models I have had.

I'd only move into the WG Pepsi if it were meteorite. That's a truly special piece that I would love to own. The blue dial looks alright, but in some lighting (I've only seen pictures), it doesn't look incredibly flattering. There aren't many blue dials I feel that way about.

I like your stance on the black GMT and the Hublot OP. I say go for it. Personally I would prefer a WG blue bezel Sub or a RG GMT, but you do you. FWIW the meteorite dial is better with the Pepsi bezel than the blue one. What would also be a massively cool watch is the green dial YG ceramic GMT from about fifteen years ago.

The WG meteorite or blue dial would be a great addition! The blue dial in this market you would do much better price point ! Good luck!

Until Rolex get to the bottom of the 32xx movement amplitude issue, I'd be actively seeking out a watch with the old movement

The upside in power reserve does not outweigh the potential downsides IMHO

Approved.

I’d get the previous generation with the black dial, not because of the movement but because it just looks better than the blue dial to my eye

I'm biased but the 116719 looks even better.

White Gold Pepsi Worth It?

White gold is truly all about the owners enjoyment, as 99.9% of the world will see it as SS. This is one where my personal preferences gravitate towards the WG because there is definitely differentiation from the SS with the blue or meteorite dial, and I love the heft and uniqueness. I really like both dials, so it’s a toss up between the two for me (no wrong answer here). The blue dial is what I chose as I love blue and IMO, it’s a great compliment to the blue in the bezel.
Me personally…if I have the good fortune to pick between SS & PM, and there’s a definite difference or exclusive dial, bracelet, bezel, etc…vs the SS version, I’ll pick the PM in most cases, but not all.

I have owned the WG BLRO before and moved it along and now have a SS BLRO on jubilee. Very similar watches to me in appearance and the premium for the WG does not work for me on this model. With the blue dial or meteorite dial it is a different conversation.

I have the black dial WG BLRO and it’s a fabulous piece…..though I have been seriously considering changing the black dial to the blue. It will give the watch a bit more distinction versus the SS version. Love the WG hue…so so different than SS

This is the ultimate sleeper. I tried the blue dial for a few months and returned to the black.
Absolutely love it. Meteorite on GMT is so so.., now on a DD it's a go !

Beautiful! I did the swap and RSC let me keep the black dial. Best of both worlds!

Was this recently? Some other threads mentioned that RSC doesn't let you keep the dial.
