Beware of michael young!

After reading the recommendations for sending one's Rolex watch to Michael Young for refurbishing, I sent my 18 carat Lady President to him over a year ago. I of course insured it when shipping to him (as he told me to be certain to do). He sent it back after the work was done by Hong Kong Post Express Mail with no signature required and WITHOUT INSURANCE! I still do not have my watch. After asking him repeatedly to check on it (only the sender can check on a package's status), he finally just said that it was lost! He took no responsibility. I recently hired an attorned in Hong Kong to check on this matter. I wish I had never heard of Michael Young! This watch was a cherished heirloom which by today's market, if new, would sell for $23,000.

I may be wrong, but the sender is responsible for sending insured, and I would think he would be smart enough to require a signature. Wise for you to get the attorney. Good luck to you.

Regardless of the ins and outs of this specific case, if he has sent it and it is lost before arriving to you he must burden some, if not all, of the responsibility.
If he cannot look after an expensive watch properly.... People should not use him.
On the other hand, I would like to hear what he has to say regarding the matter, as with all due respect, I find it hard to comprehend that a professional in this field would treat such an expensive watch in this way. Interesting if not worrying
and I wish you good luck.
Feel free to elaborate too.
Thanks

When I sent my band to him, I sent it insured. When he had finished it, he gave me the option to have it returned insured or not. The cost to insure was high, so I had it sent uninsured. Arrived fine.

I am sure he offered it to the OP....

Why would one send the watch if he was only fixing the band...???

Terrible situation, surely should have been insured!

Only sender can check the package status? When I send packages by EMS from Hong Kong, I get a ref number, which I send to the recipient so they can track it using the HK Post website. He should be able to give you that.

Maybe I should just stay out of this but it did peak my interest, the OP has been a listed member since 2012 but with only 2 posts and then one of them being this one. Something just doesn't add up to me.
OP lives in Houston and hired an attorney in HK?
I hope this isn't another one of those defaming of someone's name thread, although ... Calling someone out amongst ones peers sometimes does do the trick. I hope this ends well.
one last note: I would never go a year waiting on anything like a Solid Gold Rolex!

recently had michael refurb my band, he asked if i wanted him to insure on return trip, i said no as it seems to me that is what triggers customs to get all exited....i figured my band was worth less than 500$ before i sent it to him....so .....but michael is pretty good with all this...and statistically, he's a rock star....so....wonder if your watch/homeowners insurance will cover it....

And the other one being on the same subject today. Still, people do sign up and never post, I guess; just join to read up.

Mr. Adam,
Was I wrong do you think for posting on this? I understand some people just sign up to read and be more informed. I think that was my initial reason but I never knew we had sites like this available before I joined. I owned my watch for years before i joined ( obviously ) a P serial Sub and I found the forum do to needing some advice on something I was researching. Alternatives to using the AD for service brought me here, and then I fell in love with the whole forum, the knowledgeable people, the eye candy of watches on display. It brought me through many a dark night and day after my heart attack in late Dec. 2012.
I just thought his post was and is odd, he's not posting now even. I couldn't sleep should this be going on. Hell I don't sleep good anyway. lol

I'm not doing it. I'm too lazy and I don't have a fight in this dog.

I'll remain a little skeptical on this one pending further information.

Two thoughts came to mind:

1. Why the hell send the entire watch?
2. Why wait a year to jib?

I'd have been zapping 10,000volts M.Y's way if he hadn't sent such a valuable insured (at my cost, of course). It would have taken 364 years less than a year, also.

Michael Young has an impeccable reputation. I sent him my President band (band only) last year and it was sent back perfectly in 8 weeks. Hong Kong to Louisiana. I would like to know if this guy lives in an apt complex or in a bad neighborhood... Could have been stolen upon arrival. I would never hesitate to send MY a band again. The guy is a Magician

I sent him the link a few minutes ago.

I just received my 14k jubilee back from him. In his email alerting me that it was ready, he informed me that FedEx doesn't allow insuring from HK to US (if I recall), but I could send by EMS insured. He said it was my choice. The additional insurance cost $25, I believe.

I hadn't heard of this service but after he explained the service's reputation to me, and the fact it would be insured (for $1200usd I believe), I elected to use it--even though it might take longer. He provided me a tracking number which I used.

Once it got into US, it was held up in processing. I sent an email using EMS 'contact us' and they actually responded immediately with very helpful info! It was delivered through USPS a few days later.

I have a sub case with Michael, for having a damaged lug laser welded. It has been there over 6 months now..... But, at least, it's still there. But it might not be if the OP's legal claim has legs......

Starts a thread, gets a bunch of feedback, then no response?

And FYI anyone can check on the status so long as you have the tracking number (if it went EMS like mine, which I understand is the Hong Kong post). Surely MY forwarded him that number? But I guess we won't know since OP never came back to follow up.

I have dealt with MY for 2 watch bracelets. I took the additional insurance option for peace of mind!

I'm disregarding the original posting as conjecture FWIW. Mr. Young's reputation is stainless and stellar as far as I'm concerned and he will continue to have my business.

A full 8 days and nothing from the OP other than the opening defamation of Michael Young. Hmmm. One sure can't take much seriousness to heart about the posters accurate portrayal of the events.

hmm, suspicious at best but in all fairness now that this is posted it would be nice to get to the bottom of this. FWIW, many people who come to this forum don't have the benefit of others' experiences with MY nor are familiar with his solid reputation. For that reason, it would be nice to hear from MY to get the "story" and put this to bed.
