Anyone ever buy a Rolex with some intent of mounting it on Rubber? Contemplating DSSD

Anyone ever do this? My conundrum is because I have a Sea Dweller and pretty much think it's the perfect all around sports watch but I do miss having a watch on rubber. I have 4 young (7, 5, 3 & 16 months) children so we spend a lot of time outside and in the water. I love the heft of the DSSD for a long time and since seeing pics of others mounting this beast on rubber (would also take recs of RubberB vs Everest). So I am wondering if I can pacify my desire for the DSSD by getting one, mounting it on rubber, and leaving the SD on the bracelet. If it matters, I have 7.25" wrists.

Thanks all--

You deserve a medal having that many children at that age, Lol. I thinks its a good idea in your situation. It will also keep the bracelet in pristine condition. I say go for it. Be sure to post some pics too.

I'm looking to do the same with my DSSD too. I'm tempted to go with the Rubber B so that I can retain my Glidelock clasp. Does look like the perfect weekend combination.

Bought my 11615 to put on rubber.

Love it. It's hard to take off.

Nothing wrong with that! There was a post yesterday of a Deep Sea on rubber and I personally liked it way better than on the bracelet. I typically prefer a Rolex on a bracelet so this says much.

Yes I did that very thing with polar 16550. Only problem when I got it I really enjoyed wearing the bracelet. I went with green Everest, found the rubber to be much more supple. Either way I think it's a reasonable thing to do. I wear my sub on a bond nato and get more compliments on that than I ever has when it's on the bracelet. Makes the watch a little different from other Rolexs.

I think the DSSD is a watch that needs the option of being on a rubber strap. All my larger divers tend to spend a lot of the time on a rubber strap. The comfort factor is undeniable when watches get above 42mm and are top heavy. When I purchased my Breitling Blackbird, I ordered a rubber strap before I even received my watch.

Man there are some good looking watches on rubber in this thread.

OP: Sounds like a plan...if it doesn't work out you're no worse off as your bracelet will be pristine and you can dump it. Just buy right.

I did it with my 114300, it was the plan from the start. Love it. So comfortable.

(Sorrry. Tapatalk only gave me the large pic option)

this looks so freaking awesome!

to the OP, i have the SD43 and plan to stick the the RubberB once it's released. I am planning to get the hulk and will stick the rubberB on during the winter months.

You could even put the Rubber B on during the summer. The watch won't tug and it will be comfortable when you do start to sweat.

I am wondering which is better for a submariner, the Rubbeb band or severest? It's going on either a 18kt yg sub or a TT sub. Both with lack face?

If there is one watch in the entire Rolex catalog that begs for a rubber strap, for form and function, is the DSSD. That's how mine lives. Don't get me wrong the clasp is a marvel also.

Absolutely not. I would never buy a rolex solely for that reason unless it was the new daytona or ym on oysterflex

I bought my 14060 with the intent of modifying it. It didn't last long in modded condition.

I would get the DSSD and simply leave it as it is unless there's an issue around fitment.
Given your family situation i would also get a cheap Seiko diver on rubber for family time as a matter of priority.
Factor in a high quality non genuine replacement strap to keep in stock for when it eventually breaks.
Rubber B perhaps?

I pretty much only wore my DSSD on rubber. Much more comfortable. I bought rubber but could not get proper fit (too tight /too loose), so wore on isofrane or silicone strap from Seiko - both very comfortable.
