Sounds of Rolex

i recently purchased 3 different models.

djII, DJ and SD..

i was under the assumption that all of my watches used the same movement (3135).

however, when i put it next to my ear, i can hear three distinctive sounds coming from the three watches.

i figure it's probably due to the different casing dimensions..

BUT, i just wanted to ask someone here at TRF who has two of the same (or similar such as sub and subLV) watches if they can verify that their watches have the same 'heartbeat' sound

thx in adv !

how close can I get the rolllies to my hearing aid?

J/k

Have never thought of listening to the sound of rolex movements...... Will give it a go soon me thinks.

I guess the GV sound would be a faint one since it has an inner case?!?

Need a stethoscope for that. Then, you will really be able to hear the difference. The signature of the tick so to speak!

someone brought this up in a thread not too long ago, so what did I do, i went and listened to my watches. The Mil and Sub both kind of ping, the 1603 definitely ticks with it's low beat movement.

i can hear the differences by simply pressing against my ear.. the pitch is different.

and my ears are shot from decades of loud music.

Try them Crown-up and Crown-down. If this doesn't work try 40 full winds on each!!

I believe that is quite normal. I remember reading an article with Henry Stern (owner of Patek Phillipe). The article addressed how picky Stern was about every little thing. Stern discussed the production of a certain model, unknown which one, and how he personally inspects each final watch. He listens to each movement by putting the watch to his ear and if he doesn't like the "ting", he sends it back. He said that each watch, even thought it is exactly the same, has its own "ting" and no two watches sound the same, no matter what you do. I found it very interesting!

You're right

The movement makes a special sound , but i think the thickness of the case matters whether so hear that sound.

When I put my head on the pillow, arm under the pillow, laying on my side I still can hear it if I concentrate.

I've heard it on my (former) watches
6605
16014
16030
116200
16570

Jack

this is what i am trying to find out..

can anyone with a SAME/similar rolex model, i.e. sub and subLV, verify that the 'ting; is different or identical?
