Rolex LV sub rehaut question

Hi folks,

It's been a long time and I am not only the proud owner of my Airking, which, as my daily beater for 10 years never misbehaved ever. Still performing with the same accuracy as the day I bought it.
Anyway - last year my local jeweller had a Sub LV - only seen one before and that was on someone's wrist. It was 2006 and mint. I bought it for $5,000 - which is a lot of money for me to spend impulsively.
I like the fact that, unlike my AK (which I still see as the most Platonic design of a wrist watch), it doesn't have the engraved rehaut.
Are the plain rehauts any more collectable? or in the future? In fact, are Rolex still making LVs?

I have fallen in love with it. The green is stunning and the bezel is used all the time for me to time my tea brewing or the cats being outside in the freezing Indiana weather!

Apologies if this has been covered in another thread.

No - no box and papers, but from a reputable dealer and that's how I got it knocked down from $6,500. They don't sell many high end watches I figured in this location so I tried it on, called his bluff and scored it!

It has been flawless this year although it is not as good a time keeper as my AK - but then I took my AK to Rolex in S.t James in London and requested they "regulate the buggery out of it!" and it came back at I think+2 secs per week and has remained so to this day. I break out the AK and wear it occassionally and I simply love it. I really do not have a favourite between the two although I wear the LV as my daily beater.

....also, off topic - as you can see from my old avatar pic of my AK - you can see I've been blessed with an upright crown alignment... I expected over the intervening 10 years for the gaskets to have compacted slightly so it would not be aligned so well nowadays - nope - it's perfect still - still with the upright crown! When I do finally send it for service I will request they do not touch the crown tube - I want to keep it aligned.. My LV's crown points to 11 o'clock and it bugs me!

Well, I do - I never thought of it being used any other way really. It's useful too - the bezel is a functioning tool for me! Do you think it's being a bit meretricious and pretentious for me to wear it daily?

I've seen other people wear Subs as their daily watch - oh dear i'm feeling a tad self conscious now!

Should I set up a vote? Not that I can see myself not wearing as much - it's only been commented on to me a couple of times so maybe people don't notice it as much?
I'd genuinely like to know what you folks think now!

Nothing wrong with wearing your Sub daily as a beater. My 114060 is on my wrist daily for everything life can throw at it. Enjoy the heck out of it

I also wear my LV V serial with rehaut everyday, don't get me wrong I don't go out of my way to try & damage it . I take care of any possession that I have worked hard for & any watch I buy gets worn.

I had an upright crown alignment and requested it stay that way at St James for the service... no chance I’m afraid.
And yes, it bugs the hell out of me.

$ 5,000 a year ago even no box and papers is a heck of a deal. Congrats.

As far as collectability, a watch dealer here where I live said his customers seek the rehaut LVs. Why?

Because according to him they want as new as possible BUT discontinued. But I don't live where you do so your results may vary.

Either way you are golden as it is a great 5 digit reference that will only appreciate. No they don't make these anymore. Replaced by the 6 digit Ceramic LVs.

So appreciate it and wear it with

Just FYI I did a recent poll and the rehaut was a slight preference over the non. See below. Both are winners.

So you would rather jeopardize your watch because of some very silly so called crown alignment. It's a winding crown believe it or not it's supposed to be turned and in the real world all these so called alignment points are mainly in that person's head. When you service a watch its most important to change the crown tube and sometimes the crown to keep the W/R to that watch.

Well, that told me. I'm silly for wanting to maintain the crown alignment - as it's "most important" to change it. Why is it "most important"? Funny - I though that cleaning the movement was "most important"...
Is "most important" to get rid of that dreadful faded bezel or the tropical dial on that old Rolex, as that might make them more visible?
Please, don't tell me what I consider aesthetically important - you might not care, but I do.
Jeez.

You are going far afield. You place your emphasis on your idea of aesthetics; Padi was simply pointing out that proper maintenance would include water resistance and mechanical functionality. Changing gaskets, crowns and tubes is routine in proper maintenance and will likely change your "aesthetics"

I agree re the functionality has to be maintained, but I am also not used to being reprimanded like that. Rolex could remove the tube and if undamaged can clean and replace it - that would maintain the threading alignment. Obviously if the tube is damaged then of course I'd expect a replacement. I just think that it's the same as if you wanted Rolex to keep a weathered bezel, or a nicely patina'd dial, I would request they do not change it.
The aligned crown/tube assembly isn't important really but I like it as it rarely occurs and if I can maintain it so, then good. I was more surprised at the tone of the moderator's response than the practical difficulties in keeping said alignment. I would never compromise the integrity of my AK for that, but then if I am going to cough $1000 for a service I would expect Rolex to at least acknowledge that they could or could not do that.

I bought my LV in 2011 for $4,200 off of Craigslist in like new condition. Met the seller at the mall at AD he bought it from (warranty card verified), manager of the store knew him well (told me he was one of the store's best customers and had bought countless pieces of all brands in the past). Anyway, totally legit, but I couldn't believe the deal I was getting.

He was a watch collector and was selling part of his collection to fund his habit of expensive antique guitars. He is a producer for a very popular band. Started counting cash at the dealer and we were told we had to leave because we couldn't conduct business there. Finished up in the food court of the mall in front of Chick Fil A. Pretty surreal experience.

Anyway, wore it daily until I bought an LVC and now that's my daily 'beater'. One of the best deals on anything I've ever bought. Cool guy too.

I have worn my rehaut LV as a daily driver and flipping between the green and black bezel insert every four months. It’s what watches were made for - to be worn!

I much prefer the rehaut version hands down.

16610Lv have the best of classic (metal bezel) and modern (maxi dial) world.

With its black dial, unbeatable and collectable enough.

Rehaut of not, that doesn't matter at all.
