Short term, yes. You can already see how prices have crept up. Long term, I think they will come back down. The new Sub-dweller or whatever it is being called will commandeer more interest than the old sdc and it will again be a watch for WIS.

Give me a time frame. Every rolex goes up over the long term.

Is this a trick question? If you like five digit style watches but want the new features there's only one option - prices will rise. Now and in the future.

It's a highly desirable model.

I see a 10% increase in value, each year, if kept unsticked.
But that is a personal view.

And I just bought one (for objectivity, please knock next door)

I bought a used SDc in Feb right before basel world for ~$7500 mint. I returned it for something else. But had I kept it and sold it now, I could have easily made $500.

So it did go up right after basel a little bit and I'm sure it'll go up more from here. But I don't see it going much over its msrp, if at all.

Yeah. Slowly but surely. Nothing major but it will enjoy much more stable resale etc than it did before.

To be clear I wouldn't buy one anywhere near retail to make money. I don't see it.

Love the sd4k, and I click on every title with it in it, but these valuation posts are starting to feel like groundhog day.

Now, I've voted. So, please leave me alone, lol...

It was coming of a low base, as before Basel 2017 they could be had for a bargain

To most non-WIS they are a Sub sans cyclops

Ok, so there is some truth in this. I have a rare long "F" pointed 4 that has definitely seen some action! I'm not looking for a ridiculous 25k though, as I am totally reasonable at $19,900!

How long are you willing to wait?

When do you plan to sell?

After you factor in your currency fluctuation, what rate of return are you expecting to receive?

Msrp is $10,400. I have not seen that on the grey market.

To gain value it would need to surpass the new SD43 in demand, I just don't see it happening. I have seen far too many SD4Ks sitting at ADs and while I personally like the outgoing Seadweller I see it dropping in price and demand. I do not think it will for example surpass the LV's pricing in 10 years.

I remember reading that SS Daytonas used to sit in dealers cases for a very long time in its early days. Almost couldn't give them away.

Now, there is a 'waiting list' or 'buy two FG's to get the privilege to buy a SS'.

SD's are for a pretty specific crowd. I wanted one for over 20 years and finally got one. But it is a DeepSea! I got a DD, FGYM and a SS Daytona before getting it. But I finally got it.

I used to collect wine. The upper echelon Bordeauxs and customer list only California cab's. I never to rarely drank them. And I never sold them. Well, a cellar failure ruined most of my collection and I never collected wine again. I will just order what I want in restaurants or get the odd nice bottle to have at home.

Speculation is always tough. Especially with something so whimsical as watches. Who would have thought in its early days that Daytona's would be so sought after. Not me. I remember as a kid seeing one but had no interest. I wanted a DateJust like my dad wore. And that is why I wear Rolex. Because my dad loved his. If he wore a Timex, guaranteed I will be wearing one.

Well said.

Whatever you want to say about the SDc, good or bad, you can make the case that just about any discontinued model is doing pretty well out there on the secondary market. The SDc shouldn't be any exception...so please, for the love of all that's holy, stop with the valuation threads.

I doubt it will go up in value. Will probably fall and eventually bottom out at 6K.

The only way we can stop these valuation threads is to stop replying to them.
