Question - Unboxing/unwrapping experience.

Hey guys!

I might be getting my first Patek in a month or so (model undecided), and I was just wondering. Does every brand new PP watch come in sealed vacuumed plastic ? Or are there also instances where the AD/boutique gives you a piece from the showcase?

Might be a silly question but If I had it my way, I’d prefer to have the plastic seal cut in front of my own eyes 🙂

The practice varies depending on where you purchase the watch. Some ADs will order a watch for you and/or will keep some unopened in the safe in the backroom. In this case, you may be able to have the AD cut open the plastic seal during your purchase.

Try and be there for the uncutting of the sealed bag. Legend has it, breathing in that Geneva air at first cut is like drinking from the Holy Grail

Can confirm this as fact… haha.

I would hope you get to see the seal cut as I did for my 5167 when I got it :)

Pateks aren't massed produced so anything out of the seal already and on display are... of course, unsealed. There won't be a new piece at the back since production is limited.

If you ordered a piece, you should be able to request having it unsealed in front of your eyes. 99.9% of ADs won't let you take it home sealed (in case that was your next question).

It can be either depending on model - the ADs want to sell what’s in the case of course , and many are unlikely to have multiples of the same watch w some unsealed in the back - of course, doesn’t hurt to ask !

Thanks everyone for letting me know!

I’m trying to get mine from a boutique. Do they sell directly from the showcase too?

Definitely don’t intend to take it home unsealed, but thank you for the information 🙂
