speedy's golden year - incoming

put my name down for the apollo 11 release.
but suddenly/coincidentally found this little gem.
i had been long admiring this piece, don't see it around much (at all!).
the yellow gold and black dial/bezel configuration is sublime...may prefer this much more than the upcoming apollo 11.
absolutely smitten with it.

Lovely watch. Congrats on the pickup. I assume it’s a heavy beast?

the glare off the sapphire crystal makes this exceptionally difficult to photo the right angle...still seeking shots of the 'honey monster'...

That’s a beauty for sure, but the landing 50th sure has a lot of significance !

added myself to the apollo waitlist, we'll hope to see how it looks in person.
but agree re: significance.

i was actually trying to land a 116508 YG all black dial daytona right before the yellow speedy fell on my lap... also a piece i long coveted. went for the speedy cuz i don't see it around at all, whilst the YG daytona (tho not as common as SS versions) was relatively more available. also think over time the yellow speedy with basic black dial/bezel will be become (if not already) a rare oddity... which appeals to me

all that said, the 116508 is still swimming around in my thoughts.
and do think that it would complete this set quite well .....

I love that collection! I don't have my subdial chronos in the same shot, but we have some similar tastes.

When posting the previous photos, I stumbled back upon those of a very rare, and excellent condition pre-moon 321cal. As I recall, it was posted on an early space forum by the son of a gentleman who was involved in the supply chain for the Apollo program. It was worn sparingly, and the son came across it while sorting his father's lifetime personal effects. He was told immediately by several forum members that he should have it appraised, insured, and sent back to Switzerland for a careful factory service.

Behold!:
