So what is the first words that people say to you when you show them your watch?

I recently purchased the Sub LV, yes the “one” with the green bezel.

I was wondering what the first words out of peoples mouths are? It seems that when I show people my watch the first words are “oh, it’s green”. I am not sure that means they like it or not. I actually think the latter.

Any other first words comments to you on your watch?

No one notices or comments usually, and that perfectly fine by me.

Was at a dinner last night. Two gents independently said to me ‘Is that a Hulk?’. Has some presence:-)

I took my watch to local AD this week to obtain an extra bracelet extension link.

The AD dealer let out an involuntary "wow!" when I showed them this is the timepiece for which I needed a link.

I agree 100%, the latest Apple Watch would probably get more attention

Had some random guy comment on my Smurf in Dubai airport duty free, I nodded, smiled and walked away.

I wear them for me, not anyone else.
I prefer if no one notices

Was in Dallas the other day, when some guy came up to me and asked if that was a Starbucks. I said nope, it’s a Hulk. Almost had matching watches.

People I don't know very seldom comment on my watches. With people I do know, the first thing they say is typically "How much did that one cost?"

Kind of annoying and I find ways to navigate around giving a solid answer, but I think to most non-watch enthusiasts, price the only thing they really care about with nice watches.

We just went on a vacation with close friends of ours. They noticed our watches when we were out to dinner. His wife said something to the effect, “I see you’re both wearing a Rolex, very nice!”

My wife said, “yeah, we just got these not too long ago.” She was wearing her 31mm TT DJ. I was wearing my GMT BLNR. I didn’t say anything. I was too busy eating. lol

I have got compliments of "Nice Watch" for my Hamilton Khaki and none for the Explorer 40. I would rather prefer it that way as the reason I bought the Exp is its an under the radar watch.

Seldom commented on, if anything "I like your watch." I don't "show" them.

Been wearing a green bezel Rolex since my first one in 2004. I have not had that reaction ever. In 2004, people would say, how did you get that. I was blissfully unaware how unique it was at the time…

I daily my 36mm Explorer which is fun because I like my watches to fly under the radar. No one ever comments on it unless they know what they are looking at which is fun because then I know its someone genuinely interested in watches when they bring it up by name.

I don't make it a habit to randomly "show" my watch to people.

If it’s a random, it’s typically just “nice watch” or “love the [insert watch name I’m wearing]”

I went to a company wide function this past January and meeting my new team for the first time. One of my new teammates came up to me and said "that watch is bad ass". Caught me off guard forgetting I was wearing my Batman. He was wearing a vintage Coke.

Even before all the latest crime related to watches I was careful not to display my watches. If I'm on summer vacation wearing short sleeves I'll wear a steel watch. No one usually notices.

Only time anyone really noticed was a Rolex SA who recognized my Patek 3970. They asked if they could take a look since they had only seen one in pics

Which LV?

The original one?

A model number would be good.

Not being a mind reader.

Why would you show anyone your watch?

It's funny but I've gotten two compliments on my watch in the last month or so, both from kids under 25. I'd say the world of analog watches is still relevant for now.

Usually I just get "nice watch" or something to that effect...

I only show them to fellow watch enthusiasts.

From my semi enthusiasts … “You bought another one, how many do you have now ?”

With my full enthusiasts … we talk about the watch.

I don't show people my watches. On the very rare occasion when someone comments they tend to ask if it's an xyz or if it's genuine. I have a standard response. "This watch cost me £25, it had better be an xyz/genuine for that". This usually does the trick.

The only occasions when assembled people start showing and comparing watches in my little universe are at the AD, where the SAs and many of the customers are WISs. I've seen some superb watches on wrists at my AD. One of the SAs had a vintage Tudor Submariner. That was one hell of a lovely watch.
