Another would you rather....116509 blue dial Daytona vs 15500ST blue dial AP....

With other sport Rolex models and Daytona's in the collection. Thinking about diversifying a bit and intrigued by some other brands.

Would you rather have a 116509 blue dial or the 15500ST blue dial AP? I have never owned an AP, but do love the classic looks of the Royal Oak and think the bracelet is really nice.

Ive owned a couple AP RO's and never keep them as Im always scared of beating that bezel. Ive seen several that have been polished and they just never look the same afterwards.
Ive owned a few Daytonas and there are a couple things I just don't like about them
BUT
Between these two options I would go for the 116509 without a second thought.

You really need to try both on and see which gives you a bigger smile when putting it on for the first time.

Obviously the Rolex being all gold it will be a heavier watch on the wrist and that is something I like as precious metal. The bonus to the 116509 to me is that its WG and the majority of people will think its SS but a WIS will know what you are wearing.

For me, AP is a bit of a lost brand IMHO. So, the gorgeous blue Daytona without a second thought.

Good luck with your choice.

Daytona. The blue dial is amazing in direct sunlight

But I’m biased

i wouldn't go for another daytona if you already have one (or more) and would definitely venture into AP in your case, but also the 15500 is a pretty big watch and will wear much larger than a daytona

you need to try one on in person and see if it works. maybe also consider the 38mm chrono, it'll wear like a daytona/modern 40mm rolex

I actually really like both. If I was partial to either it would be the AP but only slightly. If I wanted gold it would be the Daytona

I have the blue dial Daytona. Beautiful watch. AP is nice too, but I think they are over-hyped (much more so than the Daytona, which is already also over-hyped....). If you can get the AP at retail price, go for it. But I wouldn't pay grey market price for it. The grey market price of the blue dial Daytona, however, isn't that much higher than retail (and you won't be able to buy it from your AD anymore), and you maybe able to find it slightly less than retail depends on the condition.

However, the Daytona is white gold and the AP is stainless steel. As much as I love my Daytona, it's not that comfortable to wear (especially in the summer) because of its weight + oyster bracelet. I think it's the bracelet. I have a DD40 and it is way more comfortable to wear because of the presidential bracelet.

I second that, the 38mm AP chronos wear amazing.

If you can get a 15510 with petrol blue dial that would be the one.

Daytona

I don’t care for 41mm AP three-hands. Too big of a dial with too much empty space. Especially an issue on the 15500.

I moved on from my 15400 blue dial but all my Daytonas remain.

A 39mm RO or one with a complication could change my answer though.

No brainer AP. My opinion is the Daytona is the LEAST distinctive Rolex model in the entire Rolex line up. EASY. Any Daytona in any variation….busy prominent sub dials and busyness within the dial make the Daytona look like virtually any chronograph from any brand. Aesthetically, it just blends into the crowd of chronographs. Just put any brand name in there. There are exceptions but few. Not talking quality…just aesthetics. Again…my opinion.

I was on the blue Daytona list until it was discontinued. At this stage of my collection, it’s either the 116509 or the Platona. Not really interested in anything else.

for looks, another vote for daytona. the dial on the 116509 is stunning irl and the weight of the wg is perfect. Demand is still sky high for that one, though, steep premium.
