Daytona Wait List - How Long?

I broke down today and got on the waitlist for the SS Rolex Daytona. I figured my stock has never been higher with my local AD and thought now is the time to take advantage of it. What is the over/under on how long the wait will be? The SA mentioned two years, but I expect it to be longer.

Depends on your spend history/relationship, and people that spend more can easily jump the queue.

With $100k worth of non Rolex purchase, your wait time will be 2 years. With no additional purchase your wait time will be never. I think it's as much about spent as it is with time. tbh the math doesn't really square for me. It'd be cheaper and less time and stress to buy grey right now.

You never, never know. Waitlists are predicated mostly on an AD’s desire to make you happy. That desire can be motivated by how much you spend or simply if an AD just really likes you. It’s certainly the longest waitlist aside from maybe off catalogue pieces or rare birds like a falcon eye dial Yacht Master that few can afford or request. It still doesn’t hurt to ask.

I got a BLRO in three days because I bought a few IWCs I wanted over a few years and was not pushy.

If he says two years, that is pretty optimistic, you must have pull. I would guess within two years. Stay on them!

Aka - no one knows but you can improve your unknown odds by purchasing plenty of diamond jewelry. That will move you up unknown spots ahead of the unknown wait list

And by AD within region and who you are dealing with at the AD. They all play by different rules.

I can only speak for my experience in acquiring a 116500 in 2019. At my AD at the time(things may have changed since)there was one central list for in demand models. Each of the six SAs got their turn in the rotation and mine told me in February of that year that I could ask for one. He said there was 22 on the list for white dial and 13 for black, after three previous models of SS Daytonas I asked for black. He said they expected 15 of each color for the year so I could expect mine “within a year.” I got the call nine months later in mid-November, MSRP was then $12400.
My previous spend at this high volume store was a BLNR in ‘17 and a BLRO in ‘18, they only sell Rolex watches. I had known my SA since ‘97 so I think relationship mattered more than spend. Bottom line, I believe each AD has their own criteria for who gets these and the method for cracking the code can vary widely. My guess is if your SA took your request you will probably get one someday, the question is how big the dealer is and how many they get.

Without that information, it can be tomorrow or never.

I’ll tell you my tale, I asked for 126519 in January, it was handed to me by my AD in June this year, 6 months for a PM Daytona.
I have never bought any jewellery or a watch I didn’t want, I was honest from day one what I wanted and what I wasn’t prepared to buy.
Now as for a SS Daytona, my AD was honest and said they don’t get many and a lot of people are in front of me, also the Pepsi another watch I asked about, so I haven’t asked for either as yet, but it’s impossible to put any time frame on it, just enjoy the fact you’re on the mystical list and one day you may get that text call or email, look at incomings on here, plenty of late have had a Daytona ..

Nobody truly knows OP, but one thing's for sure, there will be an abundance of people who tell you it cannot happen. But it can, for sure.

White dial will be harder than the black dial, so make sure you're dialled in on which one you want.

Be prepared to hear nothing for a very, very long time.
I waited a total of 8yrs for my SS Daytona - granted, the first 5 of those years I only ever bought 1 watch from that particular AD. Most of my purchase history with them has been within the last 3 years, so realistically it's been a 3 year wait. (I wasn't even in a solid position to buy one 8yrs ago hahaha)

Look forward to seeing you join the retail SS Daytona club, there really is no AD call like it...

Everyone will have their guess or share their personal experience, but the reality is that It comes down to the specific AD you're dealing with - and their policies.

Some AD's won't even put your name on the list for a Daytona, other AD's will take your name to be polite but won't ever call you. Spend history / relationship with the AD will play an important part here as well.

In my experience, an AD's offer to put you on "the waitlist" is a nicer way of saying we don't have a watch for you today, but there may be a time in the future when we would rather sell to you than any other customer at that moment in time. Or, more succinctly, it's the AD's way of saying, "thanks, we'll call you."
