I wandered into the AD today and asked about the ETA for the Deepsea Sea-Dweller. Their best guess was late autumn. I asked to be put on the list, which apparently did not exist, so they wrote down my info.

We'll see what happens.

Well I won't be buying one of them then...no matter how big and chunky and manly and exclusive it is!

I'm not surprised that there is no waiting list. The watch is a the south end of a northbound dog.

Dial size on that big watch is exactly the same dial size as the old Sea Dweller. That turns me off, but that's just me....

I'm not super fond of it either, but if there's a list, I want to be first. I will make the decision to buy after seeing it on my wrist.

I'd probably rather have a super-case sub or an vintage 5513.

I'd be interested in your thoughts Ed, I tried one on in June , The thickness and weight really stood out. Way to big for my small wrist.

Surely the dial is bigger, especially with the maxi lume.

I think it's correct (at least it appears that way from all the photo's...even the one of it next to a SD). That damn ring seems to be taking up real estate that could be used for a bigger dial - not cool if that's the case.

From what I can see that is correct.

The thing I don't understand -

The old SD already goes deeper than any man could aspire

The dial is the same size

The bracelet is slightly improved

HEV seems to be unchanged

Why didn't they just make a supercased maxi-dial SD with the new bracelet and call it a day?

What model is next for the gigantic SD/YM2 treatment?

Probably because that would be too easy and make too much sense. I agree w/ every one of your points...that would be the ultimate 'New Dweller'.

Then again, the more and more I think about it I realize this is nothing more than PR & marketing. Kind of like Corvette coming out with a new Z06 to trump the Viper & regain the title, "Ultimate US-made sports car." Then Viper decides to break 600HP, so Corvette has to return volley w/ a new ZR1 w/ 620HP. We all know 99.99% of owners will NEVER use those vehicles & HP for what they are intended for. Hell, I use to own a Viper GTS w/ 'only' 450HP & that was more car then I needed. Now 450HP is laughed at & a dime a dozen. So why build these cars & watches to these extreme ratings...nothing more than trying to let their competitors know that they won't be outdone...no matter how irrational or irrelevant it might be in the real world.

That said, I still want a Deep Sea (and a new Viper)! Yep, I'm a sucker.

All, my AD does not have a list either for DSSD. They have not had a lot of "pre" interest. I thought that was odd... I am with Ed, get on the list - see it on your wrist - see if it's worth it.
