Patek for Black Tie event??
Which Patek will you wear to a formal event? Sadly, I don't have any 'No date dial'.

I daresay any Patek can be worn to a blacktie event. Would keep it under 40mm if possible though. No Sky Moon Tourbs or Celestials but you could still pull it off :)

Probably any vintage yellow gold with a 9-90 caliber.

5227 is awesome. Funny I used to not care for stuff like golden ellipse or dressy Calatravas but I like them now. Wife picked out the rose gold GE for her bday

I wouldn't consider wearing Aquanaut or Nautilus. Among Calatravas, I have 5227, 5205 (out for service), and 5236P.

The move is not to wear a Patek. Any other watch you like.

Wear what you have and like, avoiding eye catching sparklers, and just be sure to polish your shoes.

I might wear my 5153 if a Patek, see pic, or my vintage 3733J.

Traditionally black tie calls for no watch – you're all dressing 'plainly' to focus on each other in the moment, instead of being preoccupied with style and time.
Except nobody cares. Most guests are mimicking a red carpet fashion show while constantly checking their phone and flexing watches you can spot across the ballroom. All that rambled, wear whatever you're happiest in – ideally it fits under the cuff. Bonus points for subtlety: strap instead of bracelet, dark instead of bright dial, two hands instead of three, few complications etc. Or grab a vintage pocket watch for a few grand. |

I prefer not to wear a watch for black tie occasions. iPhone, turned silent, in pocket.

I think any Patek on a black leather strap would be more than fine.
The old rules are just that--old. Remember, black tie/dinner jacket used to be informal dinner dress. |

Wear whatever you want, life is just too damn short... And I'm the same way, maybe I'm a rebel but black tie affair - I'm bringing my Nautilus over the Rolex, bracelet and all!
